I updated my Windows Live Messenger 8 to version 9. The problem is that when I sign in the messengersays "You don't have anyone in your contact list yet.". All my contacts are missing. I followed the solution posted below but still my contacts are missing HELPPPPPPPPPPP!

    I have the same problem.
I don't have my folders hidden anyway, so I skipped the first step :)
There is no ''Contacts'' folder at all. I even created one, just in case.
The windows messenger contacts list is intact, but I want to use msn messenger and it tells me I have no contacts, it reinvites all of them if I import a saved list and still shows I have no contacts after that.
I can see them all in my hotmail.

I have the same issue. I have researched a lot online, it would appear there is currently no fix and the only thing you can do is to roll back to WLM 8.1 or 8.5 untill this problem is resolved in a future version.

Delete your Contacts cache folder

1. Right click Start, and select Explore.

2. Select Tools, and then select "Folder Options".

3. In "Folder Options", select View.

4. From the "Advanced Settings", check Show hidden files and folders, make sure Hide extensions for known file types is not checked, and click OK.

5. In the Windows Explorer window, click View, select Explorer Bar, and then make sure that Folders is checked.

Delete your Contacts cache folder.

After you are done changing Windows Explorer settings go through these steps -

1. On the task bar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.

2. In the folder list on the left-hand, go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows username\Contacts\ Your Messenger email address.

3. Delete all of the files in Your Messenger email address folder.

4. In the folder list on the left-hand pane, go to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Your Messenger email address.

5. In Your Messenger email address folder, delete real and shadow folders.

6. Close Windows Explorer and try to sign in to Messenger again.

Every time i start live messenger it says there are invitations, while there are non. also new contacts i add dont show up in my list until much later

This could be due to your contact space. I suggest you try deleting a few contacts if you have more than 400. If you have less than 400 then try downloading the new 2010 msn. Hope I helped MSN expert Dr Reed

Msn wont let me add any contacts. if i add them it comes up the contact does not have msn yet, the contact is in my list but no requests are sent or they never appear online when they are online. I signed...

I suggest downloading a new msn or lose MSN
than go to
start
control panel
add&remove programs
‘windows live essentials’(if using WLM 2009)
‘windows live messenger’(if using WLM 8.5)
click on 'remove'
and then on 'repair'
wait til the wizard finishes
sign in again

No contacts in my new msn

Hmmm! I am surprised to hear that as well, you are not meant to loose your contacts simply because your are updating the messenger, because I just updated mine and I still have all my contacts intact. I think you should go to contact try to add an address or a contact if you remember any and see whether every other contacts will come out.
