console is noisy and on start up occasionally will read disc error. It is now doing it more frequently on startup.

Every time I switch on from cold it takes 5 or 6 attempts before the console will read the disk. I go through the motions of ejecting, switching off, wait then switch on again before after several attempts it works. Once working no problems. Console is in vertical position and I am only using original game disks.

Hell yes, blow in it...blow in every freaking hole on the *****--this will do it...or send it back to Nintendo and they'll blow in it and send it back to you...damn, you gamers are jackasses.

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try
another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm you that problem
is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read
error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide,
that will show you step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It
also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a

Hi. First of all... a few questions: Are you using a backup copy or original disc when the read error occurs?
Does the disc missread everytime, or is it occuring randomly?
Are you having the wii in its vertical stand or is it flat on the table?
Did you replace the whole laser assembly with drivecurcuit and all?
Did you replace the wii's motherboard, or the drive circuit board?
Answer theese and we'll see if I can't help you get closer to an answer. //baghera

How to fix a bricked wii

Q:What is a brick?
A:To brick a Wii is to damage the console beyond repair - as in 'A bricked Wii has all the electronic functionality of a brick'. To put it simply, fully bricked Wii consoles do absolutely nothing. The term is often used in situations where modifying a system's firmware (without necessarily making any alterations to the machine's hardware) has caused it to become inoperable.

Q: I've heard people talking about semi, banner and full bricks, What's the difference?

A: Semi bricks - Usually caused by installing an update from an out of region game. This is when a small error has occurred in the wii's system menu. If your wii is semi bricked you will not be able to access the Wii Settings.

Banner bricks - This is caused when one installs a wad that is corrupted or has an incorrect banner size. It may also be caused by installing Preloader on the wrong system menu. You will know your wii is banner bricked because when you boot your wii and it freezes after the health screen and/or say the system files are corrupted.

Full Bricks - These bricks are usually caused when the System's IOS is corrupted or uninstalled. The wii will either give an opera error or just a black screen at boot.

Once you figure out the type of brick you have then go here and read the faqs on how to fix it:

Wii reads disk, but won't play it

I've been suggesting this a lot today, but it works for me 9 out of 10 times. Hold the power button on the front of the console for at least ten seconds. The light should turn red. Give it a second, then hit it again and it will reboot. See if this makes a difference.

My Wii Reads Disk, but WONT EJECT IT

If it is still under warranty use the link provided

Nintendo Support

Fill out their form and be very descriptive when asked and they will repair it.

Alternatively you may choose to open the case and examine the damage - This is unadvisable as you warranty will be void and you could further damage the console
