Hi there - hope somebody out there has some suggestions for me. Just inherited maytag dishwasher when I moved into my new home - I am not sure of the actual model as it just says Jetclean - it worked fine until yesterday when the knob just seemed to stick half way through the cycle and I had to turn it manually to get it to rinse and then dry! I would prefer to tackle the problem myself rather than getting somebody in to fix it - any suggestions out there.

Re: Knob wont turn - have to turn it manually!!!
Emsie, the model number posted has a electronic control so Im not sure where we are going with this. A couple of things to check. Some models have what they call a foam guard routine. This can cause the machine to stop several times during wash because of oversudsing. (too much soap). You want to make sure the water temp going is is at least 120 to 150 degrees. The heater will only raise the water temp 1 degree every 4 or 5 minutes. This can cause long cycles. You might have a bad timer. If you remove the toe panel there should be a tech sheet attached to it. This will give you good information on your dishwasher opertaion...Catriver..post back.

Find your circuit breaker for your dishwasher and turn it off for 3-5 minutes. Turn it back on, then turn on your dishwasher. If this works, after the complete cycle of your dishwasher, you have to turn it off manually by pressing "on" botton then press it 1 more time to cancel; this will turn off. The defect is, probably the moisture built up in the control board causing it to ground some of the connections. Suggestion for the manufacturer, insulate the control board to prevent absorbing moisture.
Steps: 1)Empty the dishwasher.Remove all dishes including pots, pans and silverware. 2)Pull the bottom rack out as far as possible. The filters are under the basket on the Maytag dishwashers. It may be convenient to lift the rack out.Typically,if you lift, the wheels leave the track. 3)Remove the Coarse" filter. This filter is a small, round knob in the middle of the Fine filter.A round knob is around the Coarse filter.Hold on to the handle and lift straight up. 4)Knock the contents of the Coarse filter into the garbage can.Run the faucet to remove smaller particles.Wipe the dishwasher filter with the sink sponge.Push back into the filter holder when complete. 5)Take out the Fine filter.Turn the round knob that is around the Coarse filter counter-clockwise.Once the knob is loose pull up.The Fine filter will come out of the dishwasher. 6)Rinse the Fine filter with the hot water faucet.Scrub with the sink sponge to remove any stuck-on fragments.Replace the filter into the dishwasher.Push down and turn the knob clockwise to tighten.
Is the door open or unlatched?Make sure the door is completely closed and latched. On models with a dual-digit display, the control displays "- -" during a cycle if the door is not latched. Check for obstructions (spoons or utensils), that may be interfering with the door operation. A lower dish rack that is installed backward will also cause incomplete door closure. The lights for cycles selected will flash if the door is opened while running a cycle. Is there power to the dishwasher?Check your household electrical box to see if a fuse has blown or if the circuit breaker has tripped. If the unit has a plug-in power cord, make sure it is plugged in. Does your dishwasher have a rotary timer knob? The cycle selection must match the position of the timer knob. Turn the timer knob to the beginning of the preferred cycle. The timer knob should click when you reach the start of the cycle. Is the control lock option activated? The indicator light next to the lock graphic will illuminate when the controls are locked. Press and hold the Heated Dry option (button with lock icon) for three seconds and the light should turn off. Instructions are also placed on the label on top of the inner door to unlock the controls. Is the delay start option activated? To cancel the delay and cycle, press Start/Cancel twice. Is the water shutoff valve turned on?Make sure that the water shutoff valve is turned on.
