You should list the updates in question so we have more info to work on. But there are plenty of cases where you can have a failed update. For example they might be listed for your system but you don't actually use the hardware/software they are listed for. Or the update may have already been applied through a service pack. Or most likely you need another update first before they will work. A final possibility is that you may have to update them one at a time. Some updates simply will not install unless they are the only one you are installing. And as an afterthought i have seen one or two that wouldn't install unless it was through automatic updates. But usually if one fails to install you have some sort of option to learn more information.

How do I complete my windows updates?

Hi just because you had 109 possible updates only 2 were critical so just ignore the rest, MS will tell you what is necessary and only install those. Never install anything your PC doesn't need to avoid clutter and save disc space.

No sound on this computer had to reinstall windows XP.

You will not have sound without reinstalling the driver for it. Also, many other items will not be functioning properly until you reinstall the drivers. Go to your start menu and find "Windows Update". Click on it and do everything it asks you to do. If it asks you if you want to run Windows Update Express or Custom, pick CUSTOM. This will take a while. When it is done it should show you many, many updates available. Make sure to click "Hardware" on the left side under optional updates. This will usually have the drivers for your Sound and many other items. Check them all then "Review and Install Updates" Since you just reinstalled XP there will be close to 100 items (at least). You can uncheck everything but your Hardware drivers if you want to do those first!

XP2

Wandaur,
Windows update is where you go to get the XP SP2 and if you have enough hard drive space it will update and that is considered a critical update by Microsoft.

Service Pack 3

Welcome to the FixYa Site!

Windows XP Service Pack 3 is a collection of updates designed by Microsoft to enhance the stability and performance of the Microsoft Operating System.

However there are critical things to check for , such as program compatibility and driver compatibility.

Its critical to disable Antivirus / Firewall Software and disconnect your network cable while performing this update to avoid outside online distractions :)

If your computer is working fine now, I would not update at this time. However , there may be a time where the only way to get updates is to update to SP3.

(This has been a policy since SP2 that only new updates are available to the newest Service Pack only)

Wierd problem

It sounds like a program you have installed is having an error on startup. Dwwin.exe is the executable for Dr. Watson, an error reporting program that comes with windows. Errors like this usually raise a red flag with me, and the first thing I always do is scan for spyware and viruses. If you don't already use them, I would suggest using Spybot - Search and Destroy, as well as Ad-Aware SE for spyware, and Panda Activescan and Trend Micro Housecall for online virus scanning. (using multiple programs is always a good idea so nothing slips by.) Next, I would check your startup programs to see what is there to determine what could be generating an error. Your computer could also be missing critical updates that could solve many problems (as well as scan for malicious software if you are using windows XP). You should run windows update through the menu in internet explorer. Methods for these solutions depend on which operating system you are using. If you need any further help, give a list of all your startup items and which OS you are using and I (or someone else) can give more detailed instructions.
