Try a firmware update from the Garmin site, if available.

You can go to this web site and get an update: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00568-00
This should get it working back to normal.

Hi
Because there are only 14 bytes of memory, w0 and b0/b1 are the same locations in RAM, and w1 and b2/b3 are the same, and so on. Also, bit0 through bit15 reside in w0 (and therefore b0/b1 as well).I/O pins
You can see that 14 of the instructions in the BS-1 have to do with the I/O pins. The reason for this emphasis is the fact that the I/O pins are the only way for the BASIC Stamp to talk to the world. There are eight pins on the BS-1 (numbered 0 to 7) and 16 pins on the BS-2 (numbered 0 to 15).
The pins are bi-directional, meaning that you can read input values on them or send output values to them. The easiest way to send a value to a pin is to use the HIGH or LOW functions. The statement high 3 sends a 1 (+5 volts) out on pin 3. LOW sends a 0 (Ground). Pin 3 was chosen arbitrarily here -- you can send bits out on any pin from 0 to 7.

Hi,

Other than the reset, and if the system will allow, you may want to try and install a larger capacity (within limits) CompactFlash Card or reduce/remove some of the contents of the existing ones.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Is the map turned on? At the main menu, press the system tools icon and press the map icon. Then press the map info button.

What does it say? Does a map show up and is there a checkmark in the box next to the map description? Also, if the map is for a certain area, say lower 49 states, SW, well you won't be able to find a city in the NE because the map is only showing a limited area. If you have ample memory on the unit or have a 2GB or larger SD card, installing the full US & Canada map is the way to go. Make sure the map installed on the unit covers where you are and where you may be going.

Slow and freezing in middle of jouney

The following are suggestions based on experience. Any, all or none might be causing your fault which will be difficult to diagnose precisely without diagnostic equipment.

1. You have set the level of mapping detail too high. The additional graphics load slows the processor down to a crawl.

2. You have added too many extras to your nuvi, such as points of interest, additional maps, photos, music, SD card. All of these use up memory and processing power. Plenty of other devices perform most of those tasks far better.

3. Your unit is overheating. There is a recall by Garmin at the moment for some units which have been suffering from batteries overheating.

4. You have the unit connected to another device via Bluetooth. Although Bluetooth slows the unit down a little, the problem is usually with the paired Bluetooth device. Try deactivating Bluetooth on the nuvi to see if it makes a difference.

You can try a full reset to factory specifications, but this will wipe all data (except for any Garmin Lock passcode you have activated) from your unit, and some folks have even reported that their maps get wiped.

If you want to try a full reset anyway, then first connect your unit via USB lead to your host pc and perform a full back-up. Make sure that the battery is fully charged and then disconnect from the USB lead and turn the unit off. The reset is done by starting with the nuvi switched off and then pressing and holding the bottom right corner of the screen and then, whilst still pressing the bottom corner, turning the unit on. A warning will appear asking if you want to go ahead and you proceed from there.

Afterwards, your backup can be used to restore essential data which you didn't want erased.

I bought an garmin nuvi 200 in the States; now I am in Toronto, Canada but my gps does not work here in Canada; do I need to buy an update?

Hello,

You would have to purchase the Canadian mapping for that unit as it only has an American database so an update would help. For the price i would recommend getting a whole new unit instead of purchasing the Canadian mapping. 55 dollars would get you the Mapping 99 would get you a unit with both USA & CAN maps that would be up to date with Traffic capabilities. Here is a link to the product I would recommend for you.

Hope this helps!

I have a garmin 260w that was a gift in dec 2009. I want to update the maps to the unit and thought there wasa n option at no charge but I cant find it. Do you have instructions on how to update unit for...

Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live withthe old map or buy the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOURGarmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:

To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater First you have to set up an account at Garmin using theserial number on your GPS. Once you do that you can download firmware updatefor free. After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect yourcompatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from yourcomputer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start","Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater" REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a mapupdate.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps. By the way, thecorrect Garmin approved power OR download cables are a must!! Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.

My Garmin 765t stopped navigating

There should be a small reset switch on the back of most garmin gps units. with the unit on, depress the reset switch with a pen tip or small object until the unit shuts off and restarts. It may take a little longer to pick up the satellite but it will reque the unit and unlock the navigation screen.

Have you downloaded anything to the unit, such as MP3s or updated maps? Have you tried resetting the unit? What about a Master Reset? If you need to do this, and don't know how, let me know. Just be aware, if you do a Master Reset, it will ERASE ALL OF YOUR FAVORITES.
