If you have sound and feel the static on the front screen you have audio and high voltage---I would suggest one simple thing---with back off look carefully in the neck of the picture tube--should be 3 dimly lit lights there --the filaments for the picture tube--are they lit or not?
Rare for this model to have sound and not a picture or brightness on the screen--usually a shutdown circuit will activate.
Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

blinking is the self diagnosis working.

the 9 blink code is caused by a bad diode on the pc board. The zero crossing detect circuit is not allowing the power supply to come on .

I have had a similar problem for three years with my KV-35S66 (purchased 12/99). With my TV, I get no picture and the red LED flashes, but it doesn't cut out -- it will keep on blinking. Sound comes through fine.
My fix is to put a space heater right in front of the TV for an hour or two, then turn the TV on (or off and then on again).
It appears to be something in the electronics that needs to be warm to work properly. Once the TV is on , the TV stays warm enough to keep the picture (i.e., you can remove the space heater). I just leave the TV on constantly (it is in the basement and doesn't bother me, and my satellite displays a screen saver). TV is otherwise fine and the electric cost is much less than buying a new TV.
You could turn off and then heat up when needed, I suppose, but that takes some planning ahead.

Could be a fault in the powersupplym could be a flyback issue it will need to be evauluated to see what is the cause now most shops will tell you what it is without charge that way you can decide to repair it or replace it I am telling you it could be a power supply issue or flyback I will need to look to rule it out but at least you know what the problem could be and determine the cost of repair. please do click the end session to your right,
