Dell Optiplex 755 Orange Power light

Hi,

I have a dell opitplex 755 that has recently been showing an orange power light when I turn on the mains, and then it won't start up for ages. Eventually it will turn green and allow me to boot, but it's taking longer and longer and I'm fearful yet another Dell is going to die on me.

Thanks,
Steff

    Hi,

There's nothing wrong with the operating system, I'm using the PC in question now.

The problem occurs in the morning when I try to turn the PC on (after turning on the mains) the power button on the PC is orange and it won't boot. But if I leave it for a while, eventually when I turn on the mains power, the power button on the PC will turn green and allow me to boot. And it's getting worse, i.e. it's taking longer and longer to boot.

    Thanks,
    Steff

    It's not a laptop

I have to ask: what motherboard component is aided by the memory not being in the computer? And is this fix permanent, or would I have to remove my memory every day?

I tried your suggestion and it made no difference.
Further, when I get the orange power light in the morning the fan seems to be working harder.

I don't know what happened before this but If you have your Operating system CD, then insert it into the drive, boot from CD and follow instructions to repair your operating system or install a fresh copy.

If this does not work, then I would like to know what happened first before you started having this problem.

This is a similar problem that a friend of mine has faced before. Its a hard ware problem.
Now, remove your battery and your memory if you can or let someone assist you in removing them. Leave them out of the laptop for some time, maybe two hours and put them back.

If this does not work then you would have to change your memory.

Sorry, but you would still have to do a similar thing. This problem comes from a component connected on the mother board.

You would not have to remove your memory everyday. Disconnect your power, remove your cmos battery and memory for some time(about 3 hours). When you fix them back, that should be it.

If after fixing, it still repeats, then you would have to replace your memory with another working one to see the response.

Optiplex 755 showing orange colour light on power button.. how can i fix this problem

A Blinking Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

I have Dell Optiplex 755 dekstop i have power on problem. Orange colour light is blinking

Hi,
The problem of blinking amaber light is usually caused due to a bad power supply on the computer. Open the system tower and reseat the biggest bunch pf cable connected to the motherboard. its titled P1 and it the biggest white connector. If the same doesnot resolve the problem you would have to replace the power supply on the motherboard.

My computer is blinking orange light

In addition to the power supply, motherboard issues can cause the blinking power light and no boot problems. The Optiplex 270, 520, 620, 745 and 755 units are all known to have issues with capacitors on the motherboard. Here is a link to an article about this issue and what to do about it:

I hope this helps, if sol please rate my solution.

Sounds like you only have power going to your motherboard.

The power supply might be bad on it, that or maybe the power cord is going bad and is only letting a small amount go through. I don't see why there should be a problem if you have even a little bit of power going though.
