Re: Doesnt go stand by
There are some settings you need to make in the Power Options in the Control Panel.
First, go to the Control Panel and double click on the Power Options icon.
You will find Select a power plan page. Click Choose what closing the lid does from this window. On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, next to When I close the lid, choose what you want your mobile PC to do like Sleep, Hybernate etc both for when it is running on battery and when it is plugged in. Click Save Changes to close the window after the changes are saved. This should solve the issue. You can find the same instructions from the link provided below : http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/0bd37789-cb50-4ca6-9976-0774e44ffcea1033.mspx Hope this helps...

no boot's, there's a few little tweaks people have been leaving on boot ups all are good to know but, put the repair disc in, f8 on most as it loads up f8 it, then start from cdrom, run the cd this will put you into recovery mode, hope this help's
First reinstall SP3. If that doesnt work remove the wifi from the device list and reboot. If that doesnt work Idownlaod the latest device driver from dell. If that doesnt work then I would say a reload of XP may be the fastest way to fix this because youll be chasing the issue for hours. Reloading XP would be quicker if nothing else works.
You have a broken spring latch which sould still be in warranty, under HP.
I would email customer care and log a warranty complaint.
They will send you a box and pay for the shipping to and from. Normal turnaround is about 1 week.
you can try to remove the battery (turn over the laptop and underneath, you'll see 2 clips that hold the battery in place).
then with battery removed, plug the charger in and try powering the laptop up. (this would work if you have a faulty battery).
If this doesnt work, I would bet you have a hardware problem (either motherboard or RAM, etc). return the laptop to the shop you purchased it from for further support. (hopefully it is still under guarantee?)
I have exactly the same problem. Unhappily, the answer is that the motherboard is defective and HP will not admit that this line of computers has a manufacturer's problem. Your only solution is a $400.00 repair or the purchase of a better computer from another company. Sad.
You might have connected to interent and your windows updates are
automatically downloaded. You need to install those updates. Actually
it did not shut but power goes off may be it was on stand by mode. Now
shut down (press Alt+F4) your laptop from menu. Choose Install Updates
and Shut Down from the drop down list.
Now it will install updates and after completion it will automatically shut down your laptop. Hope it works
