When i install VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU (vs2005) on vista the following msg is shown about upgrade patch:-

"The upgrade patch cannot be installrd by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, ao the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

I have an other brain teaser! bought a laptop (sony vaio) it had vista on 32bit.i upgraded to win.7 ultimate. 32bit. could it be maybe it is a 64 bit base? nota geniouse but could this be why my bat

Beginning with the release of Microsoft Windows Vista, 64-bit operating systems are slowly becoming extremely prevalent in today's market. 64-bit operating systems are poised to eventually replace 32-bit operating systems entirely. At the present however, 32-bit applications still vastly outnumber 64-bit applications. Luckily, 64-bit operating systems are capable of running 32-bit operating systems. In 64-bit operating systems, 32-bit applications are installed to a second program files folder, named "Program Files (x86)." Programs installed in the x86 folder can be initialized just like programs installed in the regular Program Files folder.

Open the 32-bit programs folder. Go to Start > Computer > Local Disk (C:), then click on "Program Files (x86)." Open the desired program folder. The executable file for the program will be located inside the folder. Double-click on the file with the ".exe" file extension. As an example, for the QuickTime program you would double-click on the "QuickTimePlayer.exe" file. You have now successfully run a 32-bit application in your 64-bit operating system. Hope this helps.

If you install Windows Vista over a network, additional hard disk space may be required.

  • 32 MB of graphics memory

Vista update March 2009 nolonger able to reboot system HELP

Go out and get Another more valuable paperweight in the form of an external hard drive for your future backups, which had you conducted same, you could immediately clean install Vista from the original disks and then restore your system data files to a point prior to the upgrade.

In the future, regularly back up your laptop to the external drive, to minimize data loss in the event of an occurrence like the one you are experiencing now, and your laptop will be even more valuable.

More than likely you can, but you need to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements. If you had of listed your specific make and model of the system you are currently using, I would have been able to give you a definite yes/no answer. The minimum system requirements are as followings for vista home basic:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 512 MB of system memory
  • 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory
  • CD/DVD rom drive.
  • Audio Output
  • Internet access
You can also use the following windows vista upgrade advisor from Microsoft to help in making this a more easier determination.
