I have a windows xp 2005 media center edition when i boot my computer the screen stays on for like 3 seconds then it shuts down by itself i turn off the monitor and i turn it on again and the screen stays goood for another 3 seconds then it shuts down again

Can you reload last known good configuration? Tap F8 as the computer boots up to pull up safe mode, etc options. If that doesn't work, you're SOL. The fact you cannot even boot up safe mode pretty much means you're hosed. If you have files on that hard drive, I would recommend pulling the hard drive out and getting the data off w/ a hard drive adapter. Once all files saved, I would wipe the drive and reinstall the operating system. Sorry. Situations like that ****.
look at the video drivers, they may be corrupted, right click in my computer,then click manage, click on device manager, expand display adapters and you will see the model of your video card, right click on it and click uninstall, then restart your computer, windows will reinstall the driver automatically, let me know if that worked

ignore the "line 1,2,3 etc" I added them for clarity the formatting in this answer pane messes up the last line.
also before you get to edit the start up file make sure that the default operating system listed is the sae as line 5 starting from the "
Start> right click on My Computer and select properties. Click the advanced tab. Under start up and recovery click settings. Uncheck the box labled Time to display list of operating systems. Reboot, all done.
plz go to msconfig and disable all item except the antiviruse in the startup tab, then go to my computer propeties ,click on advance then click on performance then select adjust for best performance(visual tab) then go to advance tab and change the page file to 1024 for both(min and max) then do a full scale system scan for viruse Post your findings
