Question about Memory Cards & USB Flash Drives

Open Question

Twin Mos flash disk is locked, cannot be unlocked.

I could not re-format my USB2 TwinMos flash disk with any PC using Windows XP environment. The disk is write-protected although I shifted the tiny switch back and forth. Can you help me solve my problem?

Thank you.

SOURCE: Transcend jet flash showing write protected message

hey, i was having the same problem with the same flash drive... there are two ways how you can fix it..
1. try formatting using cmd
Go to start-->run and then type cmd and press enter
now the command window will open
in that type format X: (x being your drive)
This should work fine if not try the second method
2. Go to this website and download the recovery tool software which is exclusively for transcend flash drives.. click the link below to so to that site..
http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/index.asp?axn=SRH2&ModNo=107&ItemID=TS16GJFV30&Controller=#5
Download the recovery tool software under the topic software and install it in your system.
Now connect the flash drive in your pc and run the recovery tool application.. This will format your flash drive

SOURCE: my 4gb microSd sandisk is infected and cannot be

It supposes to have a tiny lock/switch on the side. Move it up or down to turn off/on the write protection.

SOURCE: Hi friends, Actually I've a 2GB Micro SD it

Check the little white switch on the side of the memory card. That is the write protection switch. Turn it to the off position and try formatting again.

Software for removing write protection from a pen drive

There is not a straight answer to your question. Multiple methods of removing write protection exist.

Many USB Pen/Flash drives have a switch built onto the unit which can be toggled to turn on or off the write protection. You can see a picture of a Flash Drive with a lock here: http://www.imation-southasia.com/about_imation/newsroom/Flash_drive.html If your unit has a lock switch - make sure it is in the correct position to allow writing.

Other methods to bypass write protection include formatting the drive. In Windows, you can open Computer (Or My Computer in XP) and right-click on the drive letter representing the flash drive and choose Format. Formatting the drive will erase the information on the drive, but it will render it back to a state that should allow you to write files to the flash drive.

Another scenario to be aware of is that some Flash drives may not allow you to write to them if they were originally formatted with a file system that is not supported by the operating system you are currently using. For example, some flash drives formatted a specific way in Windows may not be able to be written to to when you insert the drive into a Mac computer.

A last resort may be to try the unlocking software Unlocker. You can find this software here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/ This software may allow you to unlock certain files one at a time - but it may not unlock the entire drive. It's hit or miss.

Finally - if the USB Key you are trying to unlock was locked by encryption software such as DUSK or TrueCrypt, or manufacturer locking, the only way to unlock it would be to format the drive, thus erasing the data.

When i inserted 4GB pendrive in the pc when i open the pendrive it doesn't open and shows write protection and it can't be formatted at this situation.

1.Look for a switch or button on the side of the micro SD card or adapter. It might have a lock/unlock symbol on it. 2.Move the switch to the "Unlocked" position to remove write protection. This position may also be labeled "R/W" for read/write. If you have no switch, continue to Step 3. 3.Download and install Sony EzRecover (see Resources for link) and attempt to use it to format the card (this will erase all content). If this doesn't work, try Step 4. 4.Delete and repartition the micro SD card using Windows XP. Select "Control Panel" > "Administrative Tools" > "Disk Management." Select the micro SD drive and click "Delete." Right-click on empty drive and select "New Partition."

Scan disk Cruzer freezes my PC when inserted into the USB2 drive. I have tried it from a dead boot to inserting it after the boot is accomplished. I had this happen on my 2 desktops. What's up?

1. Download this tool:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4040651/LLFTOOL.EXE

2. Format

(WARNING: After running this low level format tool,
the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased.
Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)
