8gb Emprex flash drive has died. Windows does not see it and the light does not flash

I just bought the Emprex 8 GB USB Flash Drive to transfer files from an old WIN98SE computer to a WIN XP computer. The guy at Fry's said "No problem. It will work with WIN98SE." My problem is the old computer can't recognize the Flash Drive. It is hunting for a driver to be installed and can't find one. I put the Flash Drive on my WIN XP computer and it sees the Flash Drive. When I open the Flash Drive, there are no drivers there. Did I just buy a "boat anchor" (although it is a small one)? I checked Emprex's website and they don't have any downloads available. Their last update for this PD330 Flash Drive was 2005! Help....easy with the tech terms...I'm no geek! (s) WestSeattleWayne

My emprex 8gig flash drive has died. I can use other flash drives in the same port, but neither of my computers recognize that the flash drive is plugged into the port.

Check if the usb port is enabled under device manager. right click my computer then click manage. go to device manager and make sure that there are no red X or yellow ! on any of the devices. If everything is good, try your flash drive on another usb port or another computer. if other computers cannot detect your flash drive, it's broken.

The problem isn't with write protection. The file system has become corrupt and unreadable, or at least a section of it. If you can't reformat it then it's likely dying or dead. At least you should be able to recover some of your data however...

Try reformatting your thumb drive. Here's how to do it on a Mac:

1. Open Finder
2. Applications 3. On the left column, you should see your thumb drive. Click on it.
4. Click on the "Erase" tab near the top
5. For "Format:" select "FAT32"
6. Click on the "Erase..." button

Verbatim 8GB Store-an-go just went dead between uses. Computer does not even register a drive. Is this a loose connection.

have you tried it on another computer? There really are not connectors to get "loose" but unfortunately sometimes the drives do die. I would try is on another computer (windows XP or newer)
If it does not show up on another computer than chalk it up to experience. There are restoration services but they are very pricey. If you pursue this expect to pay $300.00 plus for recovery.
Sorry for your loss.

If you're using the drive on a PC with Windows XP or Windows Vista, you don't need a driver - just plug it into the PC and Windows will recognize it and install USB drivers automatically.

Sandisk Cruzer 8gb Error

Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. I'd also try the thumb drive in a different computer just to make sure the problem isn't with the thumb drive itself. The drive could also be unformatted, or formatted with a filesystem for a different platform that can't be read by XP.

Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Gone Dead

As long as it shows in Disk Management in Windows, it is most likely saveable. Borrow a flash drive from a friend, GHOST it to your hard drive and then to your flash drive (Drive to Drive may be unsafe because you can mix up which is which). It should work and then you can reformat it so as not to steal your buddies stuff.

Emprex cd burner/model # USB 5232Ul/install cd

Most times, you can plug the drive into a USB port and Windows will detect the device and assign a drive letter to it. If it does, the CD burning software should then be able to see it. Try googling the burner company name and model number if Windows continues seeing the drive as an unknown device.
