Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television
I recently aquired a Sony 57" TV. I replaced one of the video driver IC's and a few resistors and got the set running. I seem to have a convergence drift problem. I can run the set four 4 hours, set the convergence in 480 and 1080 modes, save, and exit. After power-down and back on, I see a convergence shift within 10 minutes. Can someone point me in a direction to pursue? I have another set with a shorted CRT I can steal modules and parts from if necessary. Could this be a sign the convergence IC's are worn, power supply issue or convergence module?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.
