There's most likely a paper jam. Open the door on the bak of the printer and check there first. If that is clean, remove the drum/cartridge assembly and check the front. You should find a piece of paper stuck in one of the two locations.

The purge cam switch does not come ON or OFF even after the purge cam has been driven by the specified number of pulses.
now this is checked everytime the machine is turned on, so doing a maintinace 01 reset probaly wont fix it.
bet is on that thers paper jamed on the purge unit. push the print head
to the left and look were the printhead sits when the machine is turned
of (thats the purge unit) located to the right of the mahcine. look for some ink soaked paper or somthing that doesnt look right. thers a piece of ruber on a piece of plastic atached to a spring make sure thats in place. check that thers no broken gears,
if all else fails u need a new maintinace unit unless under warranty not worth doing.
Fifteen Flashes: The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized.
Possible causes are as follows:
- The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly.
- The FINE Cartridge may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the Print Head Alignment.
follow the small holes on the sorter trays to the bottom and top there you will find the sensors that tell the copier that ther is paper in the trays make sure that they are clean and ther is no obstruction
This is usually do to a sensor, your correct on that, thers usually a plastic piece that indicates theres paper and its broken or worn.
The other thing is that it may be the little rubber grabber is worn and not grabbing the paper, so the printer thinks thers no paper because nothings going through. These parts can be orderd but are usually costly depending on the printer. If its under warranty, take it back.
Also, check the trey and make sure it isnt a I.D.10.T error and you just set the paper to legal or something. I've made that mistake before.
