I turn the power on to my RX-318 and a few seconds later it sounds like something else is kicking on....then I dont hear any sound from my speakers. I dont know if theres a fuse blown, the amp is going out...

Sounds like the automatic circuit protection. Check to make sure you have good speakers and NO shorted wires to them. Too many spearkers conected to the outputs will cause the same problem.

well, if it powers up, youve still have hope// check and see if you can see a fuse holder at back of stereo... or go to a radio shack or electronis place and get whats called 'contact cleaner' ( may go by a different name, make SURE you know that the salesperson knows what your talking about..PS.you dont have to buy the pricey stuff, but dont get the cheapest either.) then UNPLUG stereo, make sure its not hot ( dont have it on for a long time before working on it) then pull out the knobs on the front ( the volume,left/right,etc) spray a LITTLE bit into the stereo where the plugs go.dont drench it, a little goes a long way) after spreying it in, turn the knob back and forth so it gets to all the points.... make SURE its dry before plugging it back in, you can tell if you see any moisture where you sprayed.( another reason, not to spray much) i usually let my stereo and tvs dry over night before trying them.while your waiting, may as well take a cloth and clean the face, get any cruddies off... good luck

Sounds like you have an intermittant problem? Couyld be as simple as cold solder connections, as this is very common on older recivers and electronics. if your not a tech\, this is not a repair for you to play with as it can cause more damage to the unit. if you dont care with the unit open and if you know how to solder , tap around with an insulated tool or a wooden tool and see if you can get the probl;em to happen , If you see the problem connection REMEMBER you must know how to solder as well as desolder. If you dont know how to solder , take the unit into a shop to be repaiered. good Luck
