Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
I want to make my wireless network secure, with password. I entered with the IP address and I entered the page but from that point I don't know where the heck is that thing.
If you're already on the router's setup page (which has the address of http://192.168.1.1 by dafault), just go to the Wireless menu.
From the Basic Wireless Settings page - that's where you can have a personalized SSID or Wireless Network Name for your router's signal. You can change it from there and save it.
To setup a password for your wireless network, just click on the Wireless Security which is a submenu of Wireless (located on the blue line).
Just set the Security Mode to WPA-Personal and assign your preferred password on the Shared Key or Passphrase field. Your password should be at least 8 letters and is very case-sensitive. Don't forget to save it.
You can then reconnect the wireless computer/s back to your network. Just check if they can see the name of the router (SSID) and input the password you have assigned earlier.
Hope this helps. Goodluck!

Tips for a great answer:
Oct 27, 2016 | Computers & Internet
Type the router IP address, "192.168.0.1", into your Internet browser.
Press "Enter" on your keyboard.
Enter your username and password to log into the D-link configuration panel.
By default, the username is "Admin" with a blank password field.
To prevent outsiders from being able to access your D-link router's configuration panel, change the username and password to something more secure.
This can be done by selecting "Tools" from the menu and selecting "Admin." Select "Administration Settings" and enter your new username and password. Save your changes by clicking "Apply."
Enter the IP addresses for the computers you want to give access to your router. You can do this by clicking the "DHCP" link underneath the "Home" tab. Click "Apply" to save the IP addresses.
Select the "Wireless" link underneath the "Home" tab. Enter a name in the "SSID" field to identify your wireless network.
Choose "WPA" for your "Security" option. WPA will provide the highest level of security for your wireless network. Create a WPA password to access your wireless network. For maximum security, enter a combination of numbers, letters, and symbols.
Store your password in a safe place in case you ever forget it. Click "Apply" to save your settings
hope this helps

The only secure encryption is WPA2.
When you allow WPA-TKIP to be run alongside for compatibility, you just eliminated the only security you had.
All of the other "security" methods for a home router are useless. Disabling or altering the SSID broadcast does not protect the connection from anything, and neither does MAC filtering. Both are trivial to get around, and are more useful for administrative purposes such as load balancing between multiple access points on a network To set these up follow the insturctions below and find security settings
To open the set up page of the router of the router , one of your computer should be able to go online through the router.
It could be a wired computer or wireless computer.
If it is a wireless computer then make sure that the computer is connected to your own wireless network.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router using a wireless computer.
OK ! Now you have a computer online through the router and you want to open the set up page of the router.
First step is check the IP address of the computer.
Check the IP address and the Default gateway on the computer.
For Windows XP
START ==> RUN ==> type in cmd in the RUN box==> click OK or Hit ENTER . You will see a black window that is a command prompt . In the black window type in " ipconfig " ==> and Hit ENTER on your key board .
For Windows Vista and Windows 7
click on START ==> type in cmd in the start search box ==> enter ==> you will see the black window. Type in " ipconfig "you will see a lot of information. Try to find out the local area connection IPv4 address .
Note down the Default gateway number.
For MAC OS
Click APPLE icon in the right top corner of the computer. Go to System Preferences ==> go to Network ==> you will find the option Built in Ethernet or Airport whichever is connected. If you go to that you will find the Ip address and router Address.
The default gateway is the IP address of your router.
This IP address of the router will be used to open the set up page of the router
Now you got the IP address of the router.Open the Internet Browser ( Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari )
In the Address bar of the browser Type the IP address of the router.
Do not type http:// or www just type in the IP address only.
It will ask you for the user name and the password of the router.
This is the User name and the password of the router and NOT the wireless password. On a wireless router, there are 2 passwords. One is to access the router and the other one is for the wireless network.
For most of the routers the default password will be " admin " . for some routers the default password is " password ". For Linksys router the default password is admin and no user name.
