Question about Meade LX200GPS Telescope

Meade LX200GPS Not powering up for batteries

Hi, I have a Meade LX200GPS that does not power up when switched on. I've replaced the batteries, checked the battery holders for contact and wire connection problems, and checked the battery power wire interconnect connectors in the battery compartment. Is there any fuse or breaker in the base unit? Do you know if the external power supply connections (ie. AC power adapter or 12VDC power cable) might work if I get one of these? Is there a common problem you are aware of with regard to my problem? I work in the electronics repair industry and can troubleshoot the internal electronics, but resisted opening up the base compartment as I would have to take it into my place of employment to do so, the only problem with that is the travel and storage of the unit while I work for the day. I will does so if necessary but would like to avoid it if possible. Thanks for any insight you can supply me.

I have the same problem. I have been doing some troubleshooting using the schematics. I have checked all internal voltages, and they checked out correctly. I have also tried a new hand controller and the probem persists. I'm continueing to troubleshoot.

My LX200gps 10 inch microfocuser has quit. Earlier my power button was intermittent, now it works. The handcontroller alllows you to slew, but not focus. I used spray contact cleaner in the power and...

When you plug in an outside power source the internal batteries are disconnected- automatically. First thing I would try is all new cables Sounds like the motor inside the focuser died.

I own a Mead LX200 GPS telescope, after automatic alignment the the hand box keys remain locked either on the cable hand box or with the wireless one. What can I do

First thing to do is make sure you have good power-- fresh batteries and or a seperate 12 volt power pack.

Then check the hand controller cable and replace it with a new cable.

Also execute a RESET on the hand controller and send it back to factory default.

If none of these fix the problem try to get a replacement hand controller and see if that works --- if it does your hand controller is bad-- if it does not then a more serious problem with an internal circuit board will require you to return it to Meade for repairs.

My 8" LX200GPS won't turn

Then it is an internal circuit board issue. Something is either unplugged inside the scope base-- or is burned out. Meade can repair these call them:

You burned up something on the circuit board, that's why no light is on in the base. Are you sure you replaced the fuse properly?

Ron Sampson on the Yahoo LX200 Group (register for free) can fix the board-- but you must dis-assemble and send him the board.

Meade can repair the scope but they will want you to send it to them. Call them here for advice and cost.

My telescope does not pick up gps signals i get a message on the hand controller saying the sensors can not detect home postion. how much wouuld this cost to repair

Could just be a DEAD battery-- check the manual and replace the battery. If this does not work then it may need to be sent back to Meade for repair:

My meade LX200GPS can't track the stars? wheater the bad weather of observation points will affect the accuracy of automatic alignment? how can I improve the tracking

You must Calibrate motors using the same power source as you use at night outside, then do a TRAIN drives. Some of these scopes also have a Calibrate Sensors -- and some do not.

Then do a two star alignment and center both alignment stars. Daylight Savings Time = Yes right now in the USA, check that it is set to YES.

I have a meade lx200gps 10" scope. The ra up is not responing. the down is working only. After initializing and fining north the auto star says stalled motor.

Do a calibrate motors and make sure you are using a separate 12 volt power pack or BRAND NEW internal batteries. All goto scopes work better with smooth, regulated power. The internal batteries will NOT work well for very long.

The Calibrate motors routine adjusts the motors for the power supply being used.

Meade LX200GPS telescope

The front panel for the telescope has an internal fuse. Remove the screws and look at the circuit board for a fuse. Replace with the same type and rating. The telescope has a diode with the fuse that gives some protection against reverse polarity, and the telescope should function on this fix.
