Have had TV since 1/08 and problem started about 2 weeks ago, late 10/08.

  • plerway Nov 10, 2008

what is that? Greek? I need help not doublespeak.

  • plerway Nov 10, 2008

picture is cut off at top and bottom. Have tried power disconnect; no good.
    what else can I do?

  • plerway Nov 10, 2008

no black bars; no zoom mode; have changed from 16:9 to Just Set, or whatever, nothing helps; in fact, the zoom modes are not in bold and cannot be used; when watching football, none of the info bars at top or bottom appear; on news channels, the scrawl at the bottom is completely invisible.

  • plerway Nov 10, 2008

"Normal mode" setting? I don't have such a mode, unless you mean 16:9.

Definately it is the main board problem, check the electrolyic capacitors on the main board for any buldgy caps and replace.

This is a component problem ,and no combination of buttons or unplugging the unit will fix the problem

if it looks like this ( , bowed on top and bowed on bottom then it is a component problem

  • jason Nov 10, 2008

sorry , these are straight lines across the top and bottom , which would be a video board

  • jason Nov 10, 2008

this is a component board that is causing all your channels to be cut off , it will need to be replaced to correct the problem

did this happen while you were watching? or did you just notice it when you turned it on?

Download the user manual for SAMSUNG LN-T5271F and go with Resetting the Picture Settings to the Factory Defaults

Here is the link

http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/SAMSUNG/LN-T5271F-_F

The problem here is that the top and bottom of the image are cut off

The one exception is if you are watching a standard definition show that is formatted for wide screen. “Law and Order” is a perfect example. Watching this on a wide screen shows black bars above, below, and beside the image. If you use the zoom mode on this programming, the original image will expand to fill the screen with no distortion and no cropping of the image. Aside from this one exception, I recommend that you leave your HDTV set to the Normal Mode setting.

You have a bad vertical output IC and or a bad capacitor in the vertical drive or output circuit. You will need the services of a professional technician to repair this.

Does this happen only on digital channels, or all channels?

You could also try altering the view settings via the remote. Try the various settings and see if this helps. you could also try the ZOOM function if available. It all depends on how the original signal is sent from the cable station.

Should the view settings not help, then it is most likely the IC or capacitor as mentioned earlier.

It is a convergence problem.

Probably one of the convergence ICs had blown and must be replaced.

You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

Good luck....

Call Samung customer service, they are doing this repair for free. I had the same problem at 11 months, they replaced the power supply board under warranty. At 2 years I had the exact same problem again and this time they replaced 2 - 50 cent capacitors on the power supply board. It took the repair man less than an hour and he had the replacement capacitors on hand. The original board and the replacement board they gave me had capacitors that were faulty. Hopefully these new capacitors will last. I have to say that I was thinking (no more samsung products for me) but I got excellent customer service and they admit that they had a faulty product and they accepted responsibility.

Screen cuts off top of heads

Check the menu settings for the picture. You may be expanding the image to fill the sides, in the process, cutting the top and bottom.

Also, try adjusting the settings on your cable box, not on the TV. The usually solves the problem and will then allow you to adjust the size of the picture.
