Question about Whirlpool ET9FHTXMQ Top Freezer Refrigerator

Whirlpool refrigerator Model Number ET1FTTXKQ03 Keeps freezing

The top mounted freexer keeps freezing. We have stopped running the water line to the fridge, but problem started prior to this. I have totally defrosted the freezer and have tinkered with the settings. I do not know how to check the theromostat or the defrost timer to see if they are working. Any advice? There is a "drainage" chamber in the back that gets copletely iced up. It seems that I am getting condensation from somewhere, but it also seems like it seals well. There is not frost all over, just frozen water all over the bottom! Thanks

Same problem here. I have removed and defrosted the entire thing.

It fixes the problem for a few days - then right back the the refrigerator shelves full of dripping water.

I have noticed that the Ice Maker gets clogged with ice on the inlet funnel. I am thinking the the water line is dripping into the freezer and freezing the ice maker before it can refill. So when the ice maker tells it to refill the tray - the water spills into the freezer and the overflow hole.
This has been going on for 6 months or so.

    Any suggestions?

Common issue.....sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Icemaker water inlet keeps freezing

This problem is caused from a bad water valve. The water line that connects to your refrigerator hooks up directly into your water valve. The way it works is this. The water valve keeps the water pressure to OFF. Whenever your ice maker needs water it simply asks the valve to open and it does. The problem is this. The valve has malfunctioned and isn't totally shutting off anymore. This lets a tiny bit of water through. This water slowly makes its way up the water line into the freezer where it freezes in your tube :) You just need a water valve! With a model number I can give you an average price. Chances are it will run anywhere from $30 - $50. Just depends on where you get it. This is also a very easy thing to change!

Whirlpool has a kit to stop the drain from plugging up. You mount a metal tab on the heater and it is long enough to slip down into the drain. When the heater comes on some heat gets transferred into the drain hole and keeps it from ice blockage. fed15be.jpg

Hollow ice cubes and refrigerator freezer drip pan is freezing

The drain at the bottom of the evaporator on the freezer rear wall is blocked up. Ice may have gotten so far up the side of the evaporator that it is blocking a return air duct which is located there. You need to completely deice the freezer and then **** out and purge the drain hole on the bottom of the evapotrator with hot water and a turkey baster.
