  • Yes, that's a problem!! You have to put Thermal Paste between the CPU and the Heatsink. I doubt that you broke it, but it's like metal touching metal without the Thermal Paste so most times the system won't boot to keep from overheating.

Your problem is either the memory or the Graphics Card. The DV6000 series was one that had tons of problems with the Nvidia Graphics Card. Oh, since you switched motherboards, did you put the cpu in from the old motherboard and did you apply a fresh coat of Thermal Paste between the Heat Sink and CPU?

No.i put it only in my new motherboard.is that a problem?Maybe broke my CPU beacouse didn;t put the thermal paste???

Hp pavillion dv6 how to disable administrator and power up passwords

Hi, there is a small "watch battery" inside your pc that retains your Bios settings. !!Unplug your PC and hold down the power button for 10 seconds before opening your tower!!! Remove the side panel, locate the battery that's roughly the size of a quarter, remove it for 30 seconds or so, push the power button with it still unplugged and the battery removed. that should remove your troublesome password.
Replace your battery and side panel, plug it back in, and power up... I believe you can access your Bios options for an HP by pressing F11 prior to Windows boot.

My hp pavillion dv7 keyboard lock lights keep flashing; at one point the computer didn't want to boot up; I finally got that up today after six months. But the cap lock and the number lock lights still...

those are POST code, error codes, you need to watch time and count them. report them.
leave the battery main out.
does it run ok now? yes/no.? main battery out?.
even new cheap batteries fail easy and hard and short out.
test it with no main battery. it can run on AC power for ever.

are you going to run the COIN cell RTC battery for 10 more years.
it wont make it..
this PC is 10 years old today (can be) so is RTC battery end of life. most fail in 5 to 7 years, says the pink bunny. (and is correct)
the manual shows how to replace it at the real HP Site,
fixya is not hp, not at all.

page 63 shows the way to the RTC

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142

if you power on the PC, and hammer the f10 key]
BIOS runs, its menus;
check the time and date here, if wrong the RTC battery is dead.

read page 3 how.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01662442

  • old PC have many points of failure (endless it seems)
  • does the fan run? is it packed in lint, as all are this old.?
  • causing it to overheat?
  • RTC coin cell bad.
  • main battery bad. (just leave it out until the PC runs right again)
  • power pack wires broken, or running real hot.
  • HDD going bad,
  • windows infected?, no OS stated but avoid XP.

HP caps lock POST blink code page is a horror of horrors
no 2008 listing, to name one flaw (2011 and newer sadly)

If a warning light indicates the CPU is not functioning, does that mean I have to get a new processor?

Yes! judging by all the cascade break downs, I would suggest replacing the motherboard, HP has a history with motherboard issues.

Hp pavillion desktop will not power up. Blinking green light at power supply

Step 1 : Turn off the system by pressing the power button for 5 - 10 sec until the power LED is off. Removed all cables including the power cable (Exclude monitor cable and KeyBoard/Mouse).

Step 2 : Press power button for 5-10 sec again to drain fela power.

Step 3 : Reconnect the power cable at the back of the tower/computer and power on the system.

**If the same problem exists, Call HP tech Support (800-474-6836) because there is a high possibility that you have a bad Motherboard or Power Supply on the system.
