Faikure toe copy VHS tape to DVD using Smartdisk and Arcsoft Software

A Smart disk product no 800094 has been supplied with two cds. One labelled Videosafe with Quick DVD and the other Cameramate Pro fix. When either is run to transfer VHS to DVD there is an initial few seconds ( about 15) when a silent version of what is on the VHS tape appears on the screen. Then the Windows Xp Professional seems to hang. I cannot escape from the programme except by restarting the computer. I have tried several times with different settings to no avail. The Manual which came with the discs is not helpful, and is the same as the manual downloaded from the Arcsoft site. I ) Is there a better manual which can help troubleshoot? II) Is a USB connection sufficient? III) Is there an incompatibility with Windows Xp? R F Doran

How do I clear up space on my LG GP 60 dvd writer drive

A DVD drive does not use any space therefore you cannot clear space. A DVD disk however can become full. Unless it is a re-writable DVD you cannot resolve this and will need to use another blank DVD.

Can Vantec CB-IS100 IDE to SATA converter works to convert Motherboard ide port to sata or it made only for hard drives,cd-roms and DVD rom ?

It attaches directly to the drive, whether it be IDE hard disk or CD/DVD, and is used in boxes that already have sata connectors on the MB. Connector attaches to drive, cable from connector attached to drive to sata connection on MB.

Note: Sometimes these may not work (for a variety of different reasons).

Here is a link to one seller of the converter, read through the reviews. While it works well for most, sometimes there are issues.

You will need to use patitioning software to creat a partition and format it. Windows XP does have partitioning software, go to administrative tools and then disk management. If this doesn't work, you'll need partitioning software

Where do I buy a spare power adapter pa-225

For those who run across this situation, don't add to the land fill if you can fix it. The majority of the problems with the PA-225 and 226's, is the DC plug connector that connects to the MX-1. That plug's connections are 4 pins and one thru-hole terminal that's meant for the center wire, ground line connected to the plugs metal jacket, which is the ground for both 5 and 12 volt lines. The problem is that during assembly, they miss getting the wire through the eyelet of the ground terminal and solder it anyway, which usually creates an intermittent or permanent disconnection later. Although this can happen for the pins, the main culprit is this ground connection. When this becomes disconnected, the LED will Blink indicating a problem. Normally the LED is a solid orange. The plug's molding can be cut (spit in half) and slid back to expose the plugs ground terminal. The inside molding can be cut/chipped away in if need be to expose the ground line. You might need a really good mag lens to show the fault. I took some pictures and created a pdf on what I found but haven't posted any where. If all else fails, you can order one from Antec. However, beware that the connector used on the replacements will most likely not be the same as the originals. So, if your supply is really DEAD, keep it for the 4 pin male connector, and check out this Antec Online Store for their replacement. Also be aware that I've discovered that the original supplies, two of the pins are used as one 12v supply, and the other two pins are the 5 volt supply with the plugs metal jacket as the ground for both. The original supply's labeling is incorrectly pictures as each pin pair being both positive and negative, with the metal jacket not connected. Make sure that this your next supply does not ground to any of these pins, only to the jacket. The motherboard inside the MX1 connects each pin pair together for a positive terminal only, therefore, if you get a supply incorrectly matching, you can toast a new supply. If you look at the male connector from the original supply with the plastic key "top". The left pin pair is 12VDC, and the right pair is 5VDC with the metal jacket as ground for both. Good luck.

PHR-100A Is not working anymore

Okay , so there are some steps to figure out what is wrong with your external.

Firstly , if your computer makes a sound when you plug in your external , go to Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management , and see if your external drive is listed here with your local drives. If it is listed , right click on the drive and change the drive letter to make it appear in "my computer".

If your drive does not make a connection sound when connecting to your computer and also does not show up , please follow the next step.

Remove the hard drive from the casing if possible and install it in your computer case or another external case.If the drive works , the problem is with the casing and you can ignore the drive.

Now , if the problem is with the casing , there are still 3 possibilities.

  1. The USB cable between the drive and the computer may be damaged.
  2. The circuit board which connects your drive to the interface of the external may be blown.
  3. The power supply (if applicable) may have a blown transformer.
The latter is the easiest to diagnose , does your external light up at all when you plug in the power? If not , then this is probably your problem. On the bottom of the adapter is a label which you will be able to use to have a new adapter made at your local electronics shop and this will cost about $30 max. They will also be able to test the adapter with a clamp meter to see if this is really the problem and this should be free.

The second component you want to test is the USB cable. If you have a printer , swop out the cables and see if your printer functions normally. Most externals use the same connector so you should be able to test it in this manner. If the cable works go on to the last step. If the cable is defective , replace it with a new one which you can find for about $10 at most electronics and chain stores.

The last component to test is the circuit board. This is a bit of a grey zone as you probably won't be able to spot the blown component unless it failed really badly. With the casing already opened , locate the external's circuit board and check to see if you have any blackened components or fluids leaking from some components. If all the other components of the external worked perfectly , then this is the faulty part. It is not really economical to replace the circuit as most of the time it is out of production by the time you need to replace it and it still costs a lot even if it is available so if your drive is working perfectly when connected via sata or IDE on your computer , the best is to buy a new casing and place your old drive in the new casing.

A casing costs about $50 and you could get it at most tech shops and big chain stores like Best Buy.

I hope this solves your problem and please reply if you need more help.

Kind Regards

Can''t play dvd-r on my computer

Is it the DVD player/cd burner combo on your computer or simple CD player?
Compatibility: Check if your DVD player on your computer is compatible of playing -r's CD or DVD?.
Check the make and model of your computer and go to the manufacturer's website and find out from there.
You might have to talk to the manufacturer's support.
and if you are sure that the DVD player and its compatible of playing -r's DVDs then first of all check by playing any +r's DVD and see how they respond. If you are certain that it plays - and +rs etc then recheck your recording of DVD's.
Also try installing a good program software like Nero on the computer which will give you options of controlling, burning and playing DVD/CD on your computer.
Best of luck!

it was trying to stream data USB while writing DVD, somewhat risky. Try this instead: look for the option to copy all data to hard drive first and then burn DVD from hard drive.
