KDF46E2000 shuts off - 3 red flashes

Hi Ron....You posted a solution to my problem earlier but if the switches seem to be working (according to the techs), could there be something else on the circuit that could be causing it to shut down intermittently. It's been doing this for about a month now but for a stretch last week it worked the whole week until the tech came and opened up the tv to check the switches and right after he left it shut down on me within a half hour and now I can only get it to stay on for about five minutes at a time. I have to unlock and lock the lamp door to get it to come on again. The tech is calling me tomorrow to find out how it was over the weekend but he said he'd order the two boards that the switches (lamp/lamp cover) are connected to if it was still acting up. Hopefully that's where the problem lies. Any other suggestions? Thanks,

Hi Ron...I am forwarding your two comments on to them tomorrow to see what they think. I had the optical block replaced due to fuzziness on the left side of the screen and this problem has stemmed from the replacement. I did not have this problem before I had the work done. The tech doesn't think it's a warped cover because Sony seemed to have fixed the heat problem on their later models like mine. I did look at the cover and the tabs appear to be in good condition with no warpage in the cover. He wants to order the boards and go from there. I will let you know what comes out of this. The service provider is Northern Electronics. Thanks again.

My first question is did you have this problem before your set was repaired the first time or did it occur after a tech took it apart?

The switch could be flakey evidenced by it working after the door is removed and reinstalled, but I would think you would have seen that symptom before the TV was repaired. BTW- what problem did you call them out for service on?

The door switches are very delicate and Sony warns techs in their training videos to watch for this when they do an optical block swap.

If I was repairing the set, I would meter the switch for voltage at the time it fails and if I saw voltage the switch is defective or the position of the switch board or optics is changing. If no voltage was measured at the time the set shuts off and the red light still blinks 3 times, then the board the switch goes to could be bad.

Who is your servicer if you don't mind me asking?

The root of my problems was the T1 mount. Replaced that and my problem seems to be fixed. Make any sense? Thanks for your advice though...

I replaced the lamp, but the green light blinks 4x, the the red light blinks 3x, then continues to blink 3x in red

Pull your lamp out and re insert it. Make sure it is straight and you don't have to force it in. Then make sure all the doors are closed properly and tight. There are safty switches in there that if not pushed in, will trigger a 3 blink error. If after all this and you have the same problem, then you either have a bad T1 or T2 board. These are the small boards in the lamp door area that have the safety switches.

Samsung DLP 72" HL72A650C1F keeps turning off amd on

Hi,
Did you buy the original lamp?
If the problem is related to the lamp door switch, you will get a different error instead of lamp LED.

Do you hear the color wheel spinning?
Again, if it's a color wheel problem the error will be different!
My good guess is the lamp but, it could be the ballast or both.

Best of luck

I have 3 red blinks going on and the unit will not turn on. What do i do.

Thats the error code for the lamp cover not being attached properly or the lamp not installed properly. Check the door cover switch and also insure the lamp is seated fully into its compartment.

Changed lamp green light comes tv plays for about 1 or 2 minutes tv goes blank red flashes 3 times.

Not 100% sure but I am currently looking into this. 2 things it might be which are most probable. I replaced my lamp a few years back with no issues. This time around I figured I'd be proactive and bought a new lamp as my current one was going dim. Not unusable but I could tell. Lamp arrived and I put it in. Started up, great! Then after a few minutes it shut down and the red LED would blink 3 times. I removed the lamp and replaced it after unplugging the tv and turned it on. This time it ran about 20 minutes and same thing! Tried a third time and had the same thing. So I put the old bulb back in, and this time it didn't even turn on! I removed it and with a flashlight looked in there. There are two safety switches. The first is a very small pressure switch at the base of where the bulb interfaces to the TV. That switch ensures the bulb housing is seated. Secondly there is a switch in the rear side where the second door with the lever lock is. When you rotate it the switch is engaged. I replaced the housing carefully and made sure everything was tightly seated. The tv has been on for about an hour now no issues with the old bulb.

I have two theories and am leaning toward the second one I will suggest. One is that the bulb is somehow overheating as it is newer and brighter, or is somehow defective. The other theory is that as the bulb heats up the switch might be getting dislodged. I am leaning towards this given that it is working with the old bulb. But I am not certain. Soon I will try the new bulb again and may even attempt to slightly bend the switch out a little so that it is easier to engage.

Sony rear projection tv keeps shuttin off

If you have correctly seated the lamp door, then check the door itslf near the screw that tightens it down. There is a little tip that sticks through a hole to engage a safety switch. Either the tip has broken off or the safety switch has gotten damaged.
