1.If you purchase an external USB CD drive you will not need to use your floppy discs for booting. 2. You can connect a USB CD drive to your system. 3. Your system will recognize any device plugged into your USB drive. 4. There is no CD drive available for internal installation in your computer. 5. With the USB CD drive plugged in and the windows installation disc inserted, your computer should take you through the setup program automatically.

Hi, can anyone help, the small cd holding spigot in the centre of my laptop cdrom drive has fallen to pieces is there anyone with any idea where i can get the spare part to replace it.

Try to find a junk drive somewhere...old computer, used parts sale, etc...and remove the plastic piece from the old drive...carefully...and install it on your drive. Yes, it would be easier to buy a new one, but you can't. Just not sold at the retail level. This part is the same on virtually all cd and dvd drives so you don't have to look for a specific drive. Even a drive from a desktop will have the correct plastic piece.

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 Notebook computer. I

This might be as a result of CDROM Drive speed.
Generally the spin speed of CDROM Drives are always different, and there are some desktop CDROM drives that have Spin Speed as High as 60X...yes, because I have used one before. What in this case, I would suggest you do this, : Provided the Notebook CDROM Drive can read other disks, then just try and use your desktop to burn the CD disk onto another CD Disk, then try the newly burnt disk on your laptop.
And if you have an external drive, you can just copy the CD contents using a NERO burner software or any other CD Burning software, and transfer it to your laptop.
Hope this help you out.
Goodluck!

My system does not recognize my external cdrom drive though they are of the same brand

Sir,
It is problem with Operating system or drivers. Go to control panel, click the icon system, go to hardware tab, go to device manager, check the listing of cd/dvd drive below it something like yellow with exclamation mark. U should not install the driver. so reinstall the driver and install it

Thanks Good Luck

Dell 1525 can read CD but does not read DVD

Hi, If your Dell 1525 has got a CDROM drive or CD Burner/Writer then you can only Read and Write the CD's

But if you got a DVD optical Drive then you can Read CD and DVD too...

If you need more clarifications on the same, pls send me the Service Tag of your computer. ( you can find it underneath the laptop)
