Sony CMT-ED1 Shelf System "No Disc" Error

I have a Sony CMT-ED1 Shelf System that won't play or even recognize CDs. When I open the lid to load a CD, the display says, "open." However, after I close the lid, the system thinks for a minute and then returns on the display, "nodISC," even though there is one. Any help that you can offer my way?

I had the following solution offered to fix my "nodISC" problem, but I'm not sure how or if I can respond to the specific person . . .

Have you tried lens cleaning ?

Is your cd running when you insert in .

Giallonardo here again. To answer the above questions:

    1) I have not tried lens cleaning, and 2) no, the CD does not spin at all after I put it into the machine and then close the glass lid. A few moments later, the "nodISC" pops up on the display.

This is a typical problem of cd player. Just open the case and find the lens clean it with cotton buds or something soft that would not give a scratch on the lens. Otherwise buy a Lens cleaner.

Take a q-tip or something like that and clean the laser eye's lens , make sure not to press hard on the lens as this can ruin the focus adjustment that it does, so just be careful when cleaning

Try cleaning the lens first. Does this happen to all discs or only some? If it happens on all discs, it could indicate a lens failure or a failure in the optical drive. Buying a new unit would be cheaper in this case..

Does the Cd actually spin inside? Any noise? If not, then it could be that the motor is faulty..

What is a stabilzer for listening to cd player, how can I get one? thanks

Hi, I owned one of these CMT-ED1 shelf system too. I never knew what the stabiliser was either, but i used the unit and it performed great without this added stabiliser, whatever it is... so you may not need it.

My dad now has that stereo and its still working fine years later!

My Sony CMT-HP7 will not play any of my CDs. It says reading for a long time and then tells me that there is no CD and skips to the next CD... which it don't recognize.

Usually deleting the Upper and Lower Filters in the Registry resolves this issue. To do that follow this.
1. Run Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Delete Upper and Lower Filters on the right hand side pane.
4. Exit and restart.
Please comment if the information has been helpful. Thank you and regards.

Sony CMT-EP515 CD Shelf System. CDs wont play. Place CD in tray and close, disc doesnt spin but 4 distinct clicks heard then nothing

It could be 3 things.
1. the Laser carrier may be stuck and may need to be gently pried from centre to outskirt and back.
2. your cd spinning motor has gone and needs to be replaced,
3. your laser carrier motor has gone and needs to be replaced,
hope it helps.

Here's the user manual which may help some folks:
http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3860292141.pdf

Got my unit at a yard sale for 5 bucks. What a great sound!!!

The note on the CD lid referred to a stabiliser, but there wasn't one. The CD started skipping and making a whining noise.

Eventually found the manual and saw that the stabiliser was just a capto weigh the disc down so I put another CD on top of the one I wasplaying to add a little weight and it seems to be playing well. GoodLuck to you all.

Shelf cds is blocked SONY CMT-HP7

To get the cds to play, and 5 to eject, you can try taking off the sides of the consul and using compressed air. As for the shelf problem, I'm not really sure.

CMT-BX1 won't play CD's - "No Disc"

If they're clean (i.e. not scratched up or dirty) store-bought CDs (burnt CDs can be iffy in some players), then yes you should return it.
