Blowing smoke After my heater has run for a while, it will start to puff out smoke. I have to turn it off & wait for a while to turn it back on, but then it starts over again. What could be wrong with it? Thanks!

Reddy Heater will fire for approximately 40 seconds then flame goes out and puffs smoke and shuts down. Unit is reset and the unit repeats the same thing.

Had the same problem!
Solution was so obvious I could have kicked myself in the pants.
Seen that the flame kept blowing out as if there was too much air so I constricted the airflow from the rear and it worked great. Then I realized that I never put the rear cover back on. Duh!
Put the cover on and BINGO! Seems to work just like it was designed.
Don't ya just hate when you have all those extra parts left over when you put things back together again?

There are four possible answers to this problem, if the heater starts normally, runs for a few seconds or minutes and the shuts down but was still running normally at the time of shut down, this could be caused by the photocell, also known as the flame out control. This safety device may be failing, shutting down even though the heater is working normally, check the operation of the photocell. The second cause may be partial fuel filter blockage, the heater is effectively starving itself of fuel, so the flame blows out, hence the puff of smoke, and then shuts down on the safety cut out. Third cause, if this model has a compressor at the rear of the motor, the problem could be low pump pressure, caused by wear or contamination of the carbon blades, this would cause the wrong amount of fuel to be syphoned up, with weak fuel mix the heater may blow itself out and shut down. The fourth cause, perhaps indicated by the puff of white smoke, is contamination of the fuel with water, water will cause the white smoke and also is indecated by white residues or a power like substance on the end plate of the heater which glows red hot when burning.

Heater fires up and runs every once in a while it will stop flame goes out puffs smoke and fires back up also will run irregular

check ignitor element. sometimes they rust and get loose. replace if element is loose. this causes an open and the ignitor fails putting out the flame and then the safety kicks on turning off the heater blower.
