Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-70XBR950 70" Rear Projection HDTV
I just noticed a bunch of blue dots on my KDF-70XBR950 with manufacture date od march 2005. I'm in communications with sony now to see what they are willing to do. Obviuosly I need a new optical block which will rum me about $1200 to get fixed. The set cost me over $6000 new:( I'll keep everyone informed....
You have a Bad Light Engine This is a high dollar part Call UED they may have a rebuilt one in stock 1-800-648-6657.

Yes, your optical block ( light engine) is bad. Heat generated by the lamp circuit with its poorly designed ventilation system, cause the LCD panels inside the light engine to fail. They are the size of a postage stamp. There are 3 LCDs, for red, blue, and green. The heat causes them to warp and de-laminate.
Sony has systematically downed played the scope of this issue. It appears however that virtually every LCD projector they make can develop damage in the light engine which is extremely expensive to fix.
I suggest contacting Sony and your state's attorney general's office of consumer complaints asking for action on this.

You need a new projection lamp.......(XL-2100 replacement DLP
lamp)..... go to this web site to get the lamp you need for your TV
model KDF-70XBR950 70inch----
------ This web site shows you how to install it yourself. ----
http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/sony/XL-2100U.php --------- I strongly suggest that you get a SONY manufactured replacement lamp NOT a cheaper lamp from another manufacturer... it costs about $200.
