My problem is exactly the same. The television was bought in 2005 and blue dots started appearing in 10/08. It's getting worse and half of the screen is turning blue.

i have the same problem, first a blue haze across bottom, then blue dots that are becoming more everyday. called service but that model is not covered after june 08. hard to understand person, not very good english. doesn't seem fair when you spend almost $7,000.00 sony should cover this problem since it is a problem with a lot of their tvs.

Sony WAS covering optical block replacements on this TV until June of this year, but that warranty extension has now expired. I wish you luck with their customer service department

SOURCE: Blue Dots

I have the KDF 42WE655 with the same blue dot issue and Sony upgraded me to the KDL 46V4100 for $375! I jumped on the opportunity.

SOURCE: Blue dots in KDF-60WF655

Yes, your optical block ( light engine) is bad. Heat generated by the lamp circuit with its poorly designed ventilation system, cause the LCD panels inside the light engine to fail. They are the size of a postage stamp. There are 3 LCDs, for red, blue, and green. The heat causes them to warp and de-laminate.

Sony has systematically downed played the scope of this issue. It appears however that virtually every LCD projector they make can develop damage in the light engine which is extremely expensive to fix.

I suggest contacting Sony and your state's attorney general's office of consumer complaints asking for action on this.

Picture is yellow/blue (no red)

KDF means it is a LCD rear projection set so you likely have a problem inside the optical engine it uses or the associated box inside connected to and a part of that engine.

You have a bad light engine or in Sony TV sets, it is called an Optic Unit Block Assembly. This is a very expensive part and should not be attempted to be replaced by a novice. Call an authorized Sony repair place to have this repaired. Good Luck
