Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi... My 14 y.o. daughter has a Benq lap top (Joy book) which was purchased in Hong Kong 15 months ago. The other night, when she had it plugged in to recharge, we suddenly smelt a "burning smell". This was coming from the machine itself, not the recharger. The machine has now died, and my daughter is suffering withdrawal symptoms without her beloved lap top!

Hmm just ur power supply (battery) might have burned out if ur lucky
and if ur unlucky then ur mobo fried out also
so i would suggest is getting a replacement battery from a store that accpets returns (such as staples, best but or along these lines) and get a battery that replaces the old one. and if ur lucky the new battery would do the trick (this seemslike what happened)
if not.... just take the hard drive from that laptop and buy a new laptop and put the new hard drive in that laptop
or u can take it to a technician and ask him to see if ur mobo fried up and if its a real expensive laptop (probably is cause its a BEnQ) then just replace the mobo probably cost u around 150

Cpu fan not working

This is a simple fix. Just open up the case and you'll see the motherboard. Sometimes the FAN will be there just sitting on top of the CPU either secured by screws or by some latching mechanism. The fan will also have one cable that plugs somewhere on the motherboard. If you can't see the fan clearly then there might be some other component that you will have to remove to get to it. You can get on eBay and put in your computer's name and model and find a replacement fan. Just put in the search Acer Power 1000 CPU Fan and you'll see fans for $35, unfortunately they have to come from Hong Kong, so be patient or look elsewhere.

I have two Toshiba lap tops, I had the same problems which you have, tell you the truth, I took them to Bevely Hills factory warranty shop changed the mother board and then after eight months, I had some other problems, total five times in the repaire shop and finally passed the warranty. It is totally gone.

I know this can not help you at all, remember four years ago, Toshiba been suit, finally I got two years factory warranty for my lap tops, I wasted too much of my time to solve the problems but both lap top I can not use anymore,

Hi i have an hp pavilion dv2000 lap top, i am trying to record my acoustic guitar into the comp. This lap has conexant high definition audio sound card inbuilt. However when i try and plug a microphone...

The mic may be muted on the computer. In XP, double click the volume control icon in the bottom right of the screen to get the mixer. If you don't see the microphone input, go to 'options' then 'properties' and place a check in the box to show it. Then make sure it is unmuted and the volume is up.
In Vista, right-click the volume icon and choose recording devices and make sure it is on and volume up.
