CD changer won't open. Mechanical Error on display

There is a small hole just above the door on most CD changers. Unwind a small paper clip and GENTLY push it into the hole. This should release the door, and let you look inside. Don't force it because you could damage it more than it is already.

The cassette player door on my Yamaha GX-500 system doesn't open fully. The motor is working, but the door only moves one-half inch. Possible/expensive to fix?

Hi. I suspect that the belt may be worn and/or the motor pulley may be contaminated with dirt and dust. This would cause the belt to slip on the pulley when under tension / load. I would recommend cleaning the open / close mechanism with an alcohol based solution and a cotton-bud / cuetip - (those things you would use to clean your ears).

Hope this is of some help to you.

Tray for cd won't open and it says "mechaical error." Unlike in the past there seems to be nothing stuck or askew inside. I left unit on overnight and tray was apparently open because I saw it...

you need to open the cover of your component and have access to the mechanical system of the CD. The timing gears might got dislocated and you need to manually adjust them.check also if there are belts that are broken replace them.

ER message for CD, Sharp GX-CH150

The optics assembly is having a problem. Either it can not read the disc at all or the disc is not spinning. In any case, the unit will require service. If you can reach the lens, try cleaning it using a cotton swab and alcohol. That may resolve the problem. If not, update this. Please try to see whether or not the disc spins and report that as well.
