Question about Canon PIXMA MP810 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Paper is jammed in the transport unit

My printer was working fine until 2 weeks ago when it started to jam with the message " Paper is jammed in the transport unit" I have opened the rear cover to find 2 pieces of A4 paper have fed up to the printer so I removed them , but the problem happens every time I try to print! I have tried peoples suggestions on here like checking for any small pieces of paper that might be jamming the unit but haven't been able to find any. I have also tried blowing out the unit with a compressor and this never made any difference either. I am starting to tear my hair out with this as I need this printer for work and I payed a lot of money for it aproximately 12 months ago.
Has anybody seen this error before and been able to resolve the problem without having to take it to a repair center as I don't really need the extra costs considering it is relatively a new printer with little use?

Any help appreciated :)

This unit does not require the proof of purchase until 3/2009, so if you take it to a service center and tell them that you bought it about 8 months ago, but can not find the receipt, they are suppose to take your word for it and repair it under the warranty. However if you sent in the warranty card with the serial number they may have it on file, however the service center can not access that info unless they go through tech support in Va. Most do not.
I hope this helps you out, and lets you keep your hair in your head. :-)

Paper jam

This model has 5 places where you might encounter jammed paper. Since you said you cannot see it, I suspect that it may be one of the following:

1) Inside from the front - (This is a similar to accessing the print cartridges). Raise the scanning unit until it stops (cartridges move to the center). Open the two inner covers. Gently clear the jam. Try not to touch the printer components. Close both inner covers, lower the scanning unit. Press <OK>

2) Inside transport unit - Open the rear cover. Remove the jammed paper or any bits that you may find. Close the rear cover. Press <OK>

Photo Paper Jams

Based on your question, my first thought is that you changed the type of photo paper you used starting "this week" (when you first posted your question). If you did, the photo paper size/thickness may not be compatible with your printer.

Otherwise, there may be a problem with the paper sensor. Click on the following link and review the troubleshooting steps, particularly Step 2, to see if that helps:

Paper Jam Troubleshooting

Post back your results. If you are still having the problem, post any additional information you think might help solve the problem. Thanks and good luck.

Error 6A00

The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Clear Paper Jam error -- but there is no paper jam!

Sometimes while clearing the jam (if there was one) you may leave a bit of paper left behind which obscures a sensor causing it to think there is paper still in the paper path, or sometimes even paper dust can do it. Try a bottle of compressed air and blow the path out very well. Get a bright light (good flashlight) and very throroughly eyeball the paper path for any "foreign" objects...
