I know, this is very annoying. Mine is SCPH-79001.
Just put in the game like you would any game (that would read) and you should hear a few ticks. Turn the ps2 horizontly with the front facing you. And whenever you hear a tick, just tap it against you knee, then you should hear it spinning.
My ps2 wouldn't read GH world tour or metallica, but know it works. Hope I helped
(with the ps2 slim, this will work, I'm not sure with the fat but here you are)
Turn it on with the disc in it.
Turn the ps2 horizontly with the front facing you.
Whenever you hear a tick (only for fat) tap it against you knee a few times until you hear it spinning.
I first figured this out when I was frustrated. The ticks should be in groups of two. I just taped it on my knee, then I heard it spinning, and now I know I didn't waste my money on GH metallica and world tour.
you may need to call Sony and ship your playstation to Texas. i bought GH world tour and the old playstations can't read the triple layer coding or something like that. cost $50 but it worked. they also told me it happened with the rockband games as well.
If you have old ps2(fat one) or some of the older slim models they are unable to read the new dual layer discs like GHWT. You can send your ps2 back to sony to reformat it to be able to read these new discs for about $50. There is currently a class action lawsuit against sony and activision for not being upfront about this problem.
