Bought an Acer Aspire 5535 yesterday and had screen problems, i.e went blank after a period, but not always. Took it back and got it exchanged for another 5535. Experiencing the same problem. Is there a solution, or is this an inherant problem?

    I bought a 5535 from Tesco Home Plus last on 1st Nov. The screen went blank many times during the week. I returned it to tesco on Sat 8th and got a new one. The PC Guys monitored my first one for much of the day but the screen didn't go blank for them - sod's law ! Now the current 5535 I have is doing the same thing ! It's really disappointing as I like the laptop - a great deal for the price, but tesco claim it is an internet connection problem. My brother-in-law thinks it's a video card problem, but unless I deliver the laptop to tesco showing the blank screen I don't know what else I can do.

    i also bought this 5535 laptop from my local tesco on the 3rd Nov, had the same problem screen just goes black and no butons work only way to sort it is to hold power button. Returned it on the 5th but new 1 does exactly the same, I noticed a thread on the Acer site stating windows mesanger can cause problems with certain versions of windows, but stated it was a pop up box error message did not mention screen going black, could this be the cause as i have instaled msn... please help as i do like the laptop, but if it aint fixed soon i will have to return it and get another brand.

    I have the same problem,keeps crashing!!!From day one since now the same problem!Aspire 5535 is a dead laptop.Don't bother trying
    not even Acer can solve the problem.I have it 2 months and the most
    days it's in service company.

    The same is happening to me. I bought my Aspire 5535 in PC City in Barcelona, Spain. The thing is that I'm in Argentina now and i can't go back to the store to have my refund. I'm trying to contact Acer support service with no success so far.
    The only thing until now that seems to work is that I read somewhere in the web that the problem is with the Atheros AR5B91 wireless network adapter. I turned it off and haven't had the same problem yet. Now i'm looking in forums if there's a way to updating the drivers or something that avoids this or i won't be able to use any WIFI conection. My advice to future buyers: don't trust this brand, go with the safer ones (HP, Sony, etc...)

    I had the same problem.
    I also installed the new bios from the acer website. Till now (knock on wood) the computer haven't crashed yet.

    I have the same problem, tried flashing bios as described but it WON'T let me do it. When I run the x86 program, it starts and then warns me that the current version is NEWER than the version 1.04 i'm trying to flash. Then it says i'm NOT allowed to install an older bios and then quits! How on earth can I flash this when the program won't allow it?

    I'm running vista basic on this acer 5535 amd turion, 2 weeks old, hardly anything on here yet but almost daily it's crashing. Screen randomly goes blank (flashes black 4 or 5 times) and then blue screen of death appears (dump in progress) and then it restarts the laptop. When back in vista it tells me the system has recovered from an unexpected shutdown. After searching online i found this, but I can't apply the solution - the program won't let me flash the bios. So please tell me.... WHAT can I do?

    i don't know what happened, i did everything steps but, when de bios was updating sudenly the screen was black .. I can't turn on .. I just see the power light on...

The complete solution to this fault (Acer 5535 keeps crashing under vista) is to use Windows XP instead of Vista. Set up a Dual Boot so you can CHOOSE to load XP or Vista each time you turn on the laptop. I've put XP on my 5535 and it's SO much faster and seems perfectly stable now - no crashing at all.

Once you've done this you won't have any problems with the laptop anymore.
This is a perfect solution to the crashing problem!

    Hellooo Mr Clever computer person..
    Is there anyway you could help me.. I have the exact same laptop model though my screen as only stopped working alltogether for this last week before that it woulld come on at random days and then other days not. A external Monitor does work though. Is it my screen or is it a loose wire???? I dont want to take it to a shop and it cost me a fortune what i havnt got to waste if its something easy and cheap. Please help. Many thanks . Tracy

Ensure all other applications are closed.

>then run the CP2A_104 application.

Let this complete, the system then should reboot.

Once your back on, you should be good to go. This is a reminder, this may not work on all systems but it did on mine. You do this at your own risk and I accept no responsibility for any problems occured. If in doubt, refer to the Acer support line.

I had the problem too with my screen going black on my Acer 5535-5452 with the Ati Radeon HD 3200 graphics card. It happened after I ran all the updates. It had something to do with loading the wrong driver update for the graphics card. I found the wrong update either through windows or through my filehippo update checker. The solution that fixed my problem was unistalling the ATI Video Card driver and restarting the laptop. Then I went to ATI's website and downloaded the ATI Catalyst package that is all in one bundle. That seemed to fix the problem. I fixed the same problem on a desktop pc too. It was the video driver update that caused the conflict.

I use my Acer 5535 for Video Disc Jockeying with a DJ Program. It's pretty complicated to run a preview video on my laptop and run my performing videos around the club TVs. The program works great with the ATI Catalyst package update. Without that catalyst bundle it doesn't have a chance.

Hi, I had the same problem - the mouse pointer would freeze on my 5535 then the screen would go black and the only option was to switch it off. It was crashing like this at least once every 4 hours.

I followed the steps above and installed the bios update and it has not happened once since. Thanks so much to everyone on here, I was so unhappy with the lap top, now I'm delighted. Thanks :)

I returned it back to Tesco and collected my refund. They informed that they'd had 3 already returned and their Peterborough store had 13 returned - My advice...... avoid the Acer Aspire 5535 like the plague! ~:-((

Hi,

This could be one of two things, it is either the inverter (this generates high voltage to run the back light) or it could be the back light itself.

As you have suggested, it could just be a loose wire or cable.

Replacing the inverter is relatively straightforward as it is located at the bottom edge of the LCD screen behind the plastic case. The backlight is usually part of the LCD screen and you would usually be better replacing the screen entirely.

To get at either of these components to check cables/wires etc, you will need to disassemble the screen case of the laptop, this is fairly simple if you are comfortable with disassmbling laptops.

A brief overview of the screen replacement process is below, instructions 1-4 show how to remove the case to access the inverter and cables:

1. Power off your laptop. Turn the laptop upside down so that you can see the bottom side of the laptop's case.

2. Depress the battery release latch and lift the battery and laptop ac adapter out of the laptop. Flip the computer back over and open up the LCD screen to a 90 degree angle.

3. Pull off each of the rubber buttons located along the edges of the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Remove each of the screws underneath the buttons with the Phillips-head screwdriver, remove keyboard.

4. Insert your fingers underneath the cover of the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Work your fingers around the edges of the cover to unlock it from the screen. Pull the cover off the screen and set it aside.

5. Locate the inverter board at the bottom edge of the Acer laptop screen . Disconnect the cables at the right and left end of the board that connect to the Acer Aspire 5535 Screen. Remove the screw holding the inverter board in place and then lift the board off the LCD screen.

6. Tilt the screen slightly towards you until you can see the strip of tape holding the video cable. Pull off the tape and then disconnect the video cable from the laptop case.

7. Remove the Acer Aspire 5535 LCD screen from the case. Set the new screen onto the case and reattach the video cable and tape strip. Position the replacement inverter board at the bottom of the screen and attach the screw.

8. Reconnect the inverter board's cables. Pop the plastic cover onto the Acer Aspire 5535 LCD screen and reconnect the screws. Set the rubber buttons over the screws. Reconnect the battery.

9. Turn on the laptop. Wait for the manufacturer's logo to appear on the screen to ensure the display was replaced properly.

I have an aspire 5535-6631,power is on but screen is blank.


need some clarification do you see acer name on the screen when u boot the laptop. if it not then u might having the issue with screen or the display card. u need to buy the screen or the motherboard. if you stay in india then i can tell u location where they can repair the issue.

it might be your harddisk you should check it first it may not be loading your o/s or unbootable partition

Sounds like you have gotten stuck in presentation mode. Hold down the function Key (Fn) its blue, and then hit the (F5) key once. If the screen doesn't come back, press both again.

Brand New laptop, won't start


Try taking the battery out before you turn it on. Have seen completely a dead dead battery keeping a laptop from starting up. Does the hard drive activity light flickering? If it is you can try holding down the Function button (FN) and there should be another button to hit to switch between LCD\CRT.

I had this problem. Laptop has been running for 24 hours and not a problem :-)
