If you take it to a computer repair store, they should be able to get your data from your drive, however, different places charge different prices for such a service and it might turn out not to be cheap to do. The only other way would be to find a friend that has a 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch IDE hard drive adapter so the drive can be slaved into a desktop PC and the data can then be moved on to a burnable CD or USB drive

My screen is not working at all,, i master rest it then i took off the battery multiple times also my sim card and nothing works!

are the lights on the laptop burning when you turn it on and is the hard drive spinning ? If not, it's more likely you have a problem with the power. maybe the power supply is broken, is there a light on this that you can check ? If it's broken the battery won't charge and nothing works.

Error codes keeping you from using your lap top computer?

If you are receiving error codes on your computer most likely thye hard drive has a bad sector. Hard drives last approxamately 5 to 10 years depending on useage. If shut down improperly by powering off the power button the drive will go bad. This cause is the number one problem destrying a hard drive. No need to pull your heair out. Just purchase a new drive and not a rebuilt. Rebuilts do not have a warranty as a new one does and rebuilts do go out wiy=thin months most of the time. The BIOS in your computer is set up to accept any Windows disc for your programming. Here is $10 to $20. After installing the NEW hard drive you simply install the disc and turn on the computer. You will follow simple instructions to get you computer running again. If you love your old computer you will save money repairing it instead of purchasing a new one instead

When i plug it it worked but now it doesn't so i change of computer and it work again but when i unplug and decide to use it again it didn't work again

You likely need to power the hard drive from and external power supply or use the included "Y" cable to plug into 2 USB ports at the same time. Some USB ports on computers do not supply enough power to operate correctly. If the hard drive did not come with a power supply or the "Y" cable, contact SimpleTech and purchase this accessory.

Was a new or a refurbished hard drive was purchased? If new Replace the power supply instead. The power supply can cause hard drive failures even on new hard drives. Never purchase a refurbished hard drive neither

Power loss in external harddrive

Hi mjcole,
Couple things. What model WD drive do you have? Plugging the laptop adapter into the drive chassis may have fried the chassis. You can buy a new chassis and put your drive into it, or you can buy a new power supply in case the one you have has gone bad and you did not realize it. Not likely though.

The power requirements are very specific and the laptop power supply may have been to much for the WD drive.

Hello.

Sorry you are having problems during the holiday season.

All may not be lost. If your hard drive (inside the laptop) is good, even tho the laptop won't power on, your pictures should be OK.

Have you tried connecting the laptop directly to the wall, in case you are connected to a power strip that's faulty.

Is the screen dark, but there is power to the laptop (lights on) ?

Have you tried connecting a monitor to the laptop (if you have one) to see if your display is bad ?

Have you tried connecting the laptop with the power adapter, but without the battery ?? That could determine a bad battery.

If you wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to your laptop and the power goes on and off, your power jack is faulty.

Lots of questions, I know. But, hopefully this will lead us in the right direction.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Laptop overheating

Hello

I understand that your notebook heating up and restarts automatically.

The issue might be with the Fan of your notebook or Hard Drive .

To isolate the issue please perform hard drive self test. This will display whether your notebook hard drive is good or have gone bad. If the hard drive self test result is bad/fail. Then, I am afraid that you need to replace hard drive of your notebook.

To perform Hard Drive self test, here are the steps.

1. Restart the notebook.
2. Tap the F10 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
3. Using the arrow keys, navigate to Dignostics Menu and start the Hard Drive self test.
4. Once finished, navigate to Exit Menu, select "Exit Discarding Changes".
If you are using XP operating system in your notebook. Then in the 3rd steps navigate to Tools instead of Diagnostics.

If you find the above information is useful then please rate me.
