You likely have a bad lamp. The symptom you describe matches a weak or old lamp. When you first turn on the TV, the lamp is cold and doesn't draw much power. But old lamps usually have clouded reflectors, so the reflector doesn't reflect the light, it converts it into heat. The bulb overheats, draws more current than allowed, the TV "recycles", green light flashing and then the process starts over. Replace the lamp, use and original Sony lamp as the aftermarket lamps are known troublemakers. Please be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

When I turn on my 50" Plasma TV the light goes from red to green. The Green LED flashes 14 times then solid. There is a white raster but no picture or sound.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

When TV is turned on, green power light comes on and picture starts to come on, after a couple of seconds the picture goes out along with the green power light and the red standby light comes on and blinks...

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
  • No video, Power light is on or blinking.
  • TV is making a clicking noise.
  • TV takes a while to come on
  • Screen is very dim or flickers.

Again, You can get a power supply repair kit with the parts, detailed instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com . Or just click here to see more details on their kit.

Here are pictures of capacitors...Notice that the ones below look bloated. They have failed and will need to be repalced.

Tv won't come one and blinks red 7 times then stops.

When the bottom half of the picture goes out this usually indicates a failure of the lower Y driver module. When this module fails it will often take out the Y sustain module and when that happens the set goes into over current shut down. Both boards will have to be replaced. All of this is assuming you have a Plasma set and not a LCD flat panel.
