Some video cards have detailed settings available, to include doing what you describe so the monitor (specially built ones) can be turned on it's mount, mostly in order to display a tall legal-sized document full-screen. Pretty cool, if you're a lawyer or something, but not if you didn't plan on it happening! Get into your video settings in Control Panel and go through it carefully to see if a box got checked by mistake.

Change screen orientation

Computer users occasionally have a need to rotate, or "flip," a monitor display to be better able to read long documents or to view pictures. Because rotating a computer screen is such a basic function, modern operating systems (Windows XP and up) include hot keys and display options that enable the user to rotate the computer screen by 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Rotating the computer screen allows for more display options. For instance, when rotated 90 degrees, a 1680x1050 monitor becomes a 1050x1680 monitor, which provides more vertical pixels than a standard display.

Windows XP/Vista Monitor Orientation
Minimize any windows or programs to the taskbar. Click the desktop. Press "CTRL" + "ALT" at the same time. Press one of the arrow keys to flip the monitor orientation by 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The left arrow rotates the computer screen 90 degrees; the down arrow rotates the computer screen 180 degrees; the right arrow rotates the computer screen 270 degrees; the up arrow resets the monitor orientation. Rotate the computer screen in Windows Vista by opening the Control Panel, searching for "Tablet PC" and changing the "Orientation" drop box to the desired rotation. b> Windows 7 Monitor Orientation b> Click the Start menu at the lower-left hand part of the screen, and open the Control Panel. Select "Display," then click "Change display settings" from the left column. When using multiple monitors, select the monitor that you would like to rotate. Click the drop box next to the "Orientation:" option. Select the desired rotation and click "Apply." Click "Keep Changes" or "Revert," depending on preference. Click "Apply" in the Display Settings window. Click "OK" to finish. Hope this helps

How to Rotate My Desktop Display!!! It's on it's side!!!

I have had many requests for this one, Oh no my desktop has been turned on it's side!!!
The desktop is rotated 90 degress either to the left or to the right and can make life rather difficult.

It is in some cases a terrifying sight.
Well we are going to set it back to the default 0 degrees, Landscape view, that we all use and have come to love.

There are to ways of doing this.
This is the first way;
On a normal desktop display, one that is in landscape 0 degree view, you should find an Nvidia green logo, placed at the bottom right hand side of your screen. Located near the Volume silver speaker icon.
Right click the Nvidia logo and navigate to Rotation Settings.
Select ROTATE 0 Degrees.

The other way is to navigate to the control panel and double click Nvidia Control Panel.
On the Left hand side under the Display heading, click Rotate Display.
Ensure to select the NO ROTATION (Landscape) Option.

Happy Computing!
damnor01

 5. and all should be fine!

My monitor is displaying sideways on a hp montior

It sounds to me like you have Hotkeys enabled and accidently pressed them.

To rotate screen view you can do the following using the keyboard arrow keys in conjunction with pressing CTRL key and ALT key at same time:

Ctrl-Alt-Up - right side up

Ctrl-Alt-Right - 90 degrees

Ctrl-Alt-Down - 180 degrees

Ctrl-Alt-Left - 270 degrees

To locate HotKeys and disable navigate here:

Start >> Control Panel >> Display >> Settings >> Advanced

Subject to your monitor/graphics card you may need to click a few mor tabs to see HotKeys.

Hope this helps. Best Regards -md

My screen is upside down and my mouse right and left side are reversed, how can I change it back?

On my shuttle, there is a combination of button to turn the screen 90 degrees to the left or right. Something Like CTRL + ALT + Up Arrow or CTRL + SHIFT + arrow or ALT + SHIFT + Arrow , to rotate to different angle , also there are Viewing options in your display drivers. In the ATI control panel, there is a tab rotation to rotate the desktop 90 degrees to the right or left or 180 °

Try this.

My packard bell s4 laptop computer screen has turned 270 degrees clockwise and i don't know how to turn it back. help please! :)

I have seen this before with some ATI graphics card. In the tray beside the clock should be an icon for the graphics card utilities. If you right click on there you should find an option to change it back.

Though, I remember navigating with a twisted screen was hard. Good luck.

I cannot unfold the base of my HP w1707 LCD Monitor, i dont want to force it but i dont see a release lever either.

Here is a link to the setup poster that shows the base unfolding:

The key is turning the monitor counter-clockwise on the base. Then you can tilt the screen up.

My screen has turned 90 degrees to the right and i cant fix it... i used the keyboard and must have pressed a couple of buttons together but now its gone stupid please can you tell me what buttons to press...

Usually, if you have an Intel graphics card (Most of these come onboard a Motherboard) then you have pressed Ctrl-Alt Left or Ctrl-Alt-Right. Try Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Up or Ctrl-Alt-Down. This should put your screen back to the right rotation.

To disable this, there should be a blue monitor icon in the bottom right hand status bar. You can disable the keyboard shortcuts by right clicking on that icon and selecting disable shortcuts (or something like that)
