When I turned on the tv, the screen was red with red, horizontal lines. There was an image and sound. It stayed on for a short time and then turned itself off. The power light on the front was blinking red. I was unable to turn it back on. When I unplugged and replugged the power cord, the same thing happened. The tv is set in a recessed wall, so there are no issues with it being knocked around.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

First make sure that the brightness and contrast are turned up.If the screen is lit up (that is you have a raster) then the problem would be in the video circuits. If the screen is not lit then you have a problem in the deflection circuits.A good possibility, with no raster, would be the Horizontal output amplifier. If you are not familiar with circuitry you would need a tv tech.to do the repair.
You're either losing high voltage or power supply is not producing the horizontal drive signal, Check for 130v on the collector of the horizontal output transistor, if you're missing your voltage, you have a power supply problem. If voltage is too high you have something open in the power supply such as a low value resistor. If its low, something is shorted in power supply, possibly voltage regulator ic.
the biggest mistake I did with this tv.all tubes need to be replaced and it burns a hole in ur pocket.no guarantee on tubes, sony aware of the problem but didnot recall these defective sets.
Just increase the screen voltage slightly by turning the screen control on the LOT and if a horizontal line appears, check the vertical IC supply, and if everything is okay, change the vertical IC, it is not costly.
Not acutally a solution.
We are having this EXACT same problem; it started this week. Let us know what you are having done. I've called Toshiba and service reps but they are all quoting a price which is almost half the value of the tv. Have you been able to fix it? We are pretty upset since the 2year warranty recently expired. Obviously, it seems that others are having this problem as well. Email us: firstname.lastname@example.org
