I haven't been able to find anything online for the RC-1, but if you will check in the manual for your camera, there should be guidance on using this accessory. For example, the manual for the Digital Rebel XTi / 400D has instructions for using the remote control on page 153. (You can read this manual online here, last item on the Guides and Manuals list.)

Computer won't recognize my camera when I plug it in

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Where to plug in the cord in cononSD30 to copy photos to laptop

The Canon PowerShot SD30 uses a camera station to download and print photos. You will need the "interface cable" that came with your camera and camera station.
  • Attach the USB end of the cable to one of your computer's USB ports, and the other end to the Digital Terminal on the camera station base (see photo below);
  • On the camera, slide the camera mode switch to "Play", then place the camera in the camera station, and turn on the Power.
  • The two devices are now connected, ready for photo downloading.
All instructions are in the "Basic Camera User Guide". If you can't find your Canon SD30 manual, you can download a PDF version from the Canon website at:
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/5/0900011245/01/PSSD30CUGba-EN.pdf

Hope this helps.

Flash cracking, then will not flash

Sounds like the capacitor is bad. This is a send back kind of repair since the capacitor is very high voltage and not something anybody but a trained repair technician should repair. Return it to the shop you bought it or to the manufacturer fro repair. If the camera is less than 1 year old, and a Nikon, canon, Panasonic or other major brand it may have a warranty and cost nothing to repair. Check your paperwork.
