I have the same problem with my Kenmore Dryer. When start button is pushed dryer will start, but as soon as you let go it stops, However we can use a book / subject to hold button in place and the dryer will run.

Same problem. dryer will click and start, but when button is released it will click and stop.

We have just replaced the motor, did we mess something up when taking the dryer apart??

I recently tried to start my dryer and I just get a clicking noise. Is the dryer broke or do I just need to fix the starter?

I have a Candy GOU218 when I push the start button it does start the dryer but as soon as I release my finger from the button it stops, It started doing it around a week ago so I had to push and hold

There are push to start circuits used for motors and then there are holding circuits that keep the unit running. This way the dryer stops if the circuit is open due to high temperature or end of the cycle. It seems as if the holding circuit (could be a rotary switch that stays closed while the dryer is running) or a holding circuit relay (stays closed until circuit is broken by the control) has failed.

Dryer will start when start button is pushed, but as soon as you stop pressing the button, the dryer stops

I would open up the control panel unplug the unit, disconnect the wires to the push-to-start-switch and use a paperclip to attach these two connecters. If everything works you know it is the switch that is bad.

Dryer stops but the timer continues on

Fixed! The "push to start" button was stuck. Must have been some dust. I pushed the knob a few times and that's all it took. Works fine now.
