Re: My PDA took a fall

First try to charge it . If it does not power on try a hard reset. If this does not work and if you are dedicated to your pda, invest a new battery Shop at (ebay, Amazon, Shopzilla, etc) batteries are easily installed HP iPAQ H3835 Pocket PC Troubleshooting, Support, Repair & Service

My Palm Zire 72 tumbled into two inches of water.

It seems that unfortunately you PDA is damaged and needs professional repair service, or just forget about it and buy another one.

Water causes to have corrosion and shorts in electronic devices, even if is dried internally (residues cause the shorts), which is an quemical effect of have water (or moisture) with copper and other metals and a voltage from the battery.

If anyway is already damaged, you may want to try in repair it yourself.

If so, you will need to open it, and remove all residues (kind of green or white dust over the components) from the copper traces, connectors and components.

If the event is recent, there is the chance you can clean it completely, but I do see that this happened a couple of months ago.

If several weeks (or months) passed, then a deep corrosion already took place in it, and is likely that the components and connections have been permanently damaged.

In order to open and repair, you will need:

1. Torx scredriver and philips screwdriver
2. Plastic pry tool to open it without leave marks or damage the PDA housing
3. 5X magnifier with light, or better if you can use a microscope, so you can review all the areas (including under the tiny electronic components) and clean them.

If you send it to repair, it will be expensive, and it may be over the cost of buy an used PDA but in good working conditions.

I mean, depending of the damage caused by the water, it may be necessary to replace one or all the major components inside the PDA (mainboard, LCD screen, speaker, camera, battery, etc).

Best regards,

Only works while plugged in

i would say def. its the battery thats dead!
Did a quick search for batteries and found a lot and costs about 10-30$ for a battery
and some include a charger as well.
Worth spending if you gonna use it daily!

Ipaq H3835 PDA - won't hold charge??

If you purchase a new battery, they usually come with directions and special tools to change the battery. I had the same issue with 2 of mine when I got them at a used electronics store. IF it is the battery that is not working, then replacing it is easy, and you can get a replacement at your local Battery-Plus store.

In my case, one was fixed by a new battery, the other was not, and I actually had to press pretty hard in the cradle to get the second one to work. It never worked out of the cradle, so I gave that one to a neighbor kid to tear apart and see if he could get it working. (I got them for $15, so no big loss.)

Battery won't charge after being replaced

The charger might be bad. Or then the pdas connector is bad, or the motherboard is damaged.

to find out is your charger working you could use a tester to test it or another pda.

If you could get some power into the pda you could use the bootloader to test the device. Its been years since I had my 3850.

Il have to find instructions on how to get to the bootloader but test the other things first.

Drop a comment.

Compaq 3835 Fails to start after installing dashboard

Have you tried to remove the battery for a few moments? Hopefully if you try this, all your data was backed up, because removing the battery will lose your data. But, if the system is stuck at the "welcome" screen, then removing the battery wipes out the memory. The system will be just like right out of the box (unless you flashed the rom with an updated version of the Operating system, that won't roll back by just removing the battery).

If your not sure what I meant by flashing the rom, it is the upgrade process from windows 2002 to 2003 version. That is the only change that will not be lost by removing your battery.

Good Luck!

Ipaq h3835 froze

Try a soft reset first to allow programs to terminate, then try to delete programs, if that fails to work give the hard reset another try HP iPAQ H3835 Pocket PC Troubleshooting, Support, Repair & Service
