I assume your laptop monitor is the problem , try to connect you desktop monitor at the back of your laptop there's a port at the back of it.

borrow monitor then set your desktop to connect to your laptop by using crossover ethernet cable then enable the file sharing on both computers then copy all the files on your desktop to your laptop
you need more technical knowledge regarding the set up,

another way is buy usb hard drive eclosure , then get you hard drive on your desktop and connect it in you enclosure and connect the usb port on your laptop and thats it . good thing about the enclusure is this also server as you external drive. you dnt have to set any settings in this method just plug any play in kind of method

My laptop screen turns white as soon as I start it up

Check and reconnect the video cable and connectors on the computer and monitor If that doesn't work, then take the monitor and its cables and try them on a different computer to make sure that they're working. Or connect a different monitor to your computer to determine if your monitor is working or not. If the replacement monitor works, then your monitor is faulty. If your monitor works on another computer, then your computer is faulty..

I have the proper driver installed but the monitor will not show any display.

Connect the monitor to a different desktop/laptop, to prove that it is capable of working, at least some of the time.

Connect a different monitor to your desktop computer, to prove that your computer's video-card is working.

My formac dvi monitor wont work as a 2nd monitor for my laptop

Try a monitor that has a vga output only, sometimes these laptops can't recognize the difference when there is a converter involved. It doesn't see the signal properly.

Try that and if a regular monitor works with vga then you know that monitor may not be compatible with that laptop because of the converter. You could also try another converter as well to see if that fixes the problem.

Says No Signal but I clearly just pluggd it in and turned it on, and yes my computer is on

The "no signal" message is telling you there is no output from the computer. The output signal switches on the monitor, so if not there, check your cables and connections. If you have another monitor, try connecting it instead, and see if it works. This is an unusual problem, so keep trying. Connect the monitor to another computer, such as a laptop, and see if it works. If the monitor on another computer works, obviously it the first computer. If the first computer works with the second monitor, it's the first monitor.

Syncmaster 2333- connected fine to laptop on docking station for 3 months. Then all of a suddent it is causing my laptop to crash. laptop works on its own. Connected, the monitor shows my encryption...

Disconnect the monitor from the docking station and plug it directly in the laptop connector. If all is well it might be the docking station. I had one crash a computer and had to rebuild the operating system to make it work again.

When I put the data cable the screan turns off

It should do exactly that, since that is what information that your computer is sending to the monitor. When it is *NOT* connected,
then the monitor may display a "not connected" message.

Turn on the computer that is connected to the monitor,
and it should start to display some text, as the computer starts.

Also, try connecting the monitor to a different computer (desktop/laptop) to see if the monitor works at all.

Try connecting another monitor to your computer, to verify that your computer is emitting the correct video signals.

I want to use my laptop as a monitor for my desktop

Check VGA cord connection, possibly try another, shorter VGA cord, plugging in cords BEFORE booting up computer, with monitor power on also. No signal is just computer telling you that it is not connecting.
You may have to go into Setup when computer boots up and turn on or select external monitor as some laptops may require this. Good Luck!
