Is it ok to play normal cd's in stereo mode, using satelite speakers?, as there seems to be a lot of bass coming out of the fronts, and no bass in the sub, and i dont want to damage the speakers
SOURCE: still no sound
Press the "Listen Mode" button to put unit into the surround mode of choice. Pictogram will show which speakers are active.

In Stereo Direct the analogue sound is directly routed to the amplifiers. In all the other ways the signal is digitized (if it ain't already) then modified digitally in a very specialized processor. In your case that processor has just died. It can't be repaired and you must replace the entire board it's soldered on to fix that - it will be expensive.
Why it has failed ? I don't know, but, since it's a processor, even the smallest electrostatic shock is enough.

I'm going to assume there's nothing unusual going on here like bi-amping or speakers being driven by external amps on the pre-outs; and that the volume levels were not really high when it occurred. You would have pointed that out, right?
Is is possible that you may not notice the symptom on music or action unless you are really focusing on it?

On page E-13, step 2, what's your configuration?
Does this only happen with a certain digital source?
There are some interesting (mal)adjustments possible on this beast. ADV5 on page E-17, is one. If one source is acting up, would a 'wrong' setting here be responsible?
It's possible that a given digital source may drop out or degrade and if you also have the analog audio connected it may temporarily switch to that feed until the bitstream is restored.
Be sure any optical cables are run so they have no small-radious bends which would cause light signal loss.
I hope this either helps or stimulates an aha moment for you.

If it gets louder with the volume it's noise entering in or before the preamp area.
There could be an unsecured cable shield/ground or a major ground potential difference between the Arcam and other equipment. Try floating the ARCAM free of any other external electronics first. If it's silent start adding things until you identify the culprit.
