Question about KDS Valiant 6481C (KN6481CIPT-02) PC Notebook

1 Answer

Valiant 6481CPTD My battery will not charge, so I am going to get a new one, but I also have a problem using the laptop keyboard. I cannot get the symbol lock to turn off. I am not sure it has anything to do with the battery. I can plug the laptop in directly without the battery, but can't do much else because the symbol lock is on. When I attach a external keyboad it works fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Richard Anderson Andycap

My laptop battery will not charge.

To start with try using another power package to make sure it is not from the battery port. if the power pack is ok, then you have to check the power port.

Try it with only the battery.
Try it with only the power cord without the battery.
If neither of these work, you most likely have a bad motherboard.

Another keyboard skipping until I removed the dead battery, now it works.

Turn off the touch pad mouse, there is a button to do that. If the problem is still present then remove the mouse driver and go to Synaptic web site and download the most current driver. HP is the place to get the driver though. For some strange reason the problem is present more under XP than it is under Vista. On a Vista the problem is fixed. Either you can disable it or use external USB mouse instead.

KDS Valiant 671DP

first step: lay the screen fully down, then pry the two speaker covers outward. You may have to move the screen around to get them out.
second step: lift the center section containing the power button upward.
third step: loosen the two small phillips screws that hold the keyboard on.
fourth step: gently lift the keyboard up. There is a ribbon cable that plugs into a socket. There is a liftable tab on either side of the socket. Gently pry them up to release the ribbon cable and thus the keyboard.

fifth step: The hard drive is now visible. It is held in by three screws: one on the left and two on the connector. Once these three screws have been removed you can lift the drive out.

Take the old drive out of the holder and remove the connector. Install connector onto the new drive then secure into the drive holder.

Remainder of assembly is reverse of disassembly.

You may need to pry the ribbon tabs up to ensure that the ribbon cable seats down fully. Once the ribbon cable is down, push down the tabs to lock the keyboard in securely.

hope this helps.

Cannot Boot

Removing the cmos battery isn't always enough to reset the bios you may need to find the 'JBAT1' terminal on the mobo and put jumper across pins 2-3 then back to 1-2. But it may be a faulty mobo where the charger connects to the board.
