Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 PC Notebook

2 Answers

Memory issues Please help....have an Inspiron 9300 with 1Gb installed RAM. Today I purchased 2x1Gb RAM things to replace the 2x512mb that are in there. When i powered up, all I get is the error LED flashing and the computer won't even power up. Went to DELL support which recommended installing the latest BIOS, which I did to no effect (if anything the computer seems to be lagging now). The RAM I purchsed has the following on it: "1GB DDR2 667Mhz SODIMM". It fits in the slot just fine. Please HELP!!!

Thanks for the assistance. Checked it one by one and turns out one of them was faulty. All fixed now!

When I hit the power button, the power light comes on, and stays on for about 10 sec. and the number lock, caps lock and scroll lock, flash just for an instant. There is no hard drive motion, as well as the fan. I've checked the voltage from the battery and AC power and all check out just fine. further more, if I push the power button twice all lights mentioned before stay lite for 10 seconds. I'm a little stumped at this. There is absolutely no booting at all, and I'm stumped. The best I can think is that maybe it's a failed mother board.

I want to upgrade my memory. my current memory is 2x256mb pc2 3200. what is the max limit of memory can i have? is it per slot or total? if i get pc2-5300 is it backward compatible to pc2-3200? anyone with...

Hi,
You can have a maximum of 2GB in that laptop 1x1GB in each slot, the ram speed is PC3200, PC5300 is too fast so the bios will not recognize it as the maximum is only 400MHz, stick to the PC3200 for each stick.
Ask for SODIMM DD2 SDRAM, PC3200 2x1GB, i also recommend Kingston as the ram manufacturer.

Regards.

Do I Need MORE RAM?

Hey bro, a gross consumption of system resources s a good sign of... sorry to be the one to tell you, but a virus. A good free virus removal/detector is avg ( http://free.avg.com/ ). If this isn't the problem, you might want to shut down extra junk. You can delete stuff from your Programs folder, or you can do a temp thin. Under run on the start menu, type msconfig. From here, you can shut down any programs that you don't need. Just make sure to restart when you're done.

Dell Inspiron 600m not starting up!

I had this same problem with my 600m laptop.  How many times do the lights flash, before they stop flashing?

Cause: There is a physical problem with the computer that it is detecting at startup diagnostics.

Solution:
You should have two pieces of RAM installed. Carefully, remove the memory slot cover.  Swap the 2 pieces of memory you have in there (please follow memory installation and removal for laptops to the letter, by never touching any of the electronic contacts and handling the memory from its sides). Make sure, they sit in the slot properly (to the best you can see). Then, place back the memory cover, very carefully, and screw in.  If you see the memory door cover not closing properly, the RAM might be improperly inserted.  Please go back to the swapping of RAM step. :)

If this didn't work, 1 of the 2 RAM's you have are no longer functioning properly. Please follow the steps to openning the memory door again and remove RAM in "B" slot first.  Then close it and try to start the computer.

If it still doing the same light flashes, open the memory door and remove RAM in slot "A".  then place the RAM you removed from slot "B" into slot "A".  Then start the computer again.

Won't Reboot after installing new RAM

If you remove the 1GB memory that you were trying to install and it will boot, then it is your new memory that is not compatible. Check here for what memory will be compatible with your laptop.

Install 2 RAM modules of 1 GB

The other memory may be soldered in. Check your manual and see if it has any information on additional memory. If you only have on expansion slot you may have to buy larger memory chips. like instead of 2 chips 1 gig each you may have to purchase a 2 gig chip. Computer companies usually make the chip installation easy to get to on lap tops.

T23 wont boot

I would unplug it and remove the battery. Plug it back in and try without battery, if it still doesn't work, unplug the power again and remove the memory (RAM). Plug it back in and try again without RAM, if it beeps then the motherboard is probably good. If you had more than one piece of RAM, try one at a time and see if you get it to boot with one of them.
