Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

Unable to connect to my wireless network connection (SSID still VISIBLE)

I have Linksys WRT54GS wireless and it has worked fine, via both LAN port and secured wireless.

Two lapotops were connecting regularly to wireless SSID until last night.

This morning neither can connect wirelessly (4 networks are 'discovered' but connection to mine fails. as does connection to another listed but unsecured network - just as a test!).

connection via LAN cable is still fine (hence this thread).

I have tried repair connection, rebooting laptops, power down and back up for router (end even broadband modem, in desperation).

nothing seems to help. Yet I can still 'see' my SSID so hard to understand what has sudddenly broken.

Have ypou any suggestions, please?

Thnks, Les

Sounds like the right approach, but have tried what seems like EVERY permutation of your appreciated advice.

I have interleaved with reboots of laptop and disabling firewall. And some imaginative vocabulary!Always the same result. I am at my wits end and giving up for today, before I am tempted to look for a hammer.

Q If my laptop can ;see; an UNSECURED wireless network SSID, what could prevent me connecting?

    A Blowed if I know.

Thanks anyway, and if you get another thought I'd be glad to try that too. Les

to all who have tried to help, a big thank you.

    The problem has been resolved!

As eecom (above) suggested, the solution was to change channel. It was chanel 11 (default?).

A chap at work suggested I shoose 6 as an alternative (don't know why). As soon as I saved this I was re-connected!

Theory is that someone nearby has just started using a device that broadcasts on similar frequency and is more powerful, or just disrupts my connection. Thanks again and I hope this saves someone else's sanity (too late for mine). Les

When I shut my laptop down and turn it back on I do not have the internet. I have to go and reboot the router and most of the time my laptop will come back on and other times I have to keep forcing it to connect and it finally will. Just started having this problem about a month ago.

I've been looking at wireless problems for someone else, so here are a couple more possibilities.

1) could a new piece of equipment be interfering with the signal, eg a dect phone nearby, even a microwave - or even something next door? Does moving the router help at all?
2) does changing the router channel help? Eg, if you are picking up other networks, maybe it is getting busy on the channel you are using. :)

Just ideas - as obviously I don't know your exact situation - but worth looking at.

Log on to the router, go to your wireless setup page. Disable wireless, reboot it and when it comes back up, enable wireless once more with a different pre-shared key. You'll need obviously to enter this new key into your laptops. Let me know if this solves the problem.

Hi,

Please do the following

If you have a internet modem connect the lan cable from the Modem to the router's Wan / Internet Port.

From the Lan port you can connect to the system . Or use wireless fuction to connect computer to router

. If you are using wireless then just scan for wireless network from your system and connect it when the wirelelss network got visible

Thanks

We went from a windows xp to windows 7 and now our linksys won't work. it comes up error 322. help. model # WRT54GS v7.2

NOTE: For instructions on how to "Get Downloads" from Linksys Support site, click here.
Connecting to Wireless Networks Using Windows 7's WLAN Autoconfig

Follow the steps to connect to your wireless network using Windows 7's Autoconfig.

Step 1:
Click on this icon kb20600-001_en.png at the bottom-right of the screen and you will see a list of available wireless networks.
Step 2:
Select your wireless network's name or SSID then click Connect.
NOTE: If the wireless network's name or SSID is not listed, the SSID broadcast on the router is disabled. To connect to the wireless network with SSID broadcast disabled, click here.
If the computer does not connect, it is probably because the computer cannot detect any signal or cannot see any wireless network. In this case, you should change the channel of the router. For instructions, click here.

If WEP/WPA is enabled on the router:

NOTE: To learn more about WEP/WPA and other Wireless Settings, click here.

Step 3:
You will be prompted for your wireless network's security key. Click OK after entering your security key.
Step 4:
You will see the following screen and you will be soon connected to your wireless network.
