Printing 4x6 glossy paper photos on Canon MX700

When I load the paper into the back of the printer, as instructed, it just reads as an error on the display screen saying there is no paper.

Very frustrating! You would think with all of the modern technology that things would just be alot more simple.

I have a Canon Pixma MX700. I have printed many great photos but not it prints a faint image in the background but the rest of the photo is covered with black ink spots, what can I do to correct this problem?
