Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

My lcd screen on our 42" Sony Wega gets those little ramdom squares that come up intermittently on the screen that stalls out the action and also stalls out the sound momentarily. Is this a malfunction of the tuner, or is the signal suspect?

It is most likely a signal problem. I work on Sony TV's everyday and they have very few tuner problems. The issue you are having sounds just like a weak digital TV signal. Try an amplified antenna and see it that helps. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

We purchased a sony wega hd lcd projection tv. The set had a great picture until the lamp had to be replaced. The screen got progressively darker until the screen went completely dark. After the lamp...

It sounds to me like you got a fingerprint on the lamp when you installed it. The oils in your skin can cause all kinds of problems on a lamp that gets soo hot. I recommend replacing the lamp again and using a tissue or sterile glove to hadle the new bulb. Also, before replacing the lamp make sure to clean and vacuum out the light engine box and fan.

If the problem persists, then the LCD panels inside the light engine have been heat damaged. There is a class action lawsuit in New York that is trying to extend the light engine warrantee on Wega TVs. You should give Sony a call at 1-800-222-SONY for information and more assistance.

good luck!

Sony Grand WEGA LCD with no picture

If this is the model I am thinking of, don't bother fixing it. Call up sony and they will should offer you an new sony bravia lcd tv. You can either get the free one or upgrade from the free one to a bigger one. I guess that there is some recall with the light engine and sony is giving out this offer. This happened to my grandma to her 42" grand wega. The ending result was that she got a 46" 120hz sony bravia tv for, if I remember right, $250. I hope that this helps. Good luck and happy new years!!!

Sony WEGA 42" LCD TV

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with Sony and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. Even if it is out of warranty.
You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!
