When I hook up the provided Jabra brand usb cable, my computer says it does not recognize the device. When I go into the MotionDV studio it says there is no device hooked up to the computer. When I first plugged in the connection cord to the camera it did not plug in real easily and I am wondering if it is easy to damage the port or the cord. I have installed all the proper drivers. I GIVE UP.
Are ther any other devices I could buy that would read the digital tapes that would connect ot my computer easily so I can begin editing my movies?

Re: Can't get my computer to recognize the device
You may use different USB ports. Make sure your computer USB is v2.0 Computer's Bios and Chipset update could be a possible solution. You may also try Firewire/1394 Connection which is more reliable and faster for video editing and conversion.
Usually in professional use hook up the Camcorder directly to the computer is not very preferred, Using DV converters are more common such as Canopus products as you can find them on www.canopus.com

To connect that device to your computer make sure that your camcorder had a fire wire or usb cable. If your camcorder has no capacity to connect using those cable all you have to do is to get the third party hardware device such as capture card which has the audio video cable to connect to it then from that device that can connect to your computer using usb cable.
Make sure that the software/driver of your camcorder is installed on your computer. The driver is included in the package with your camcorder. If it's already installed, try using other USB ports on your computer. If that fails, try hooking other devices that use USB ports on your computer, and see it that work. If other devices work w/ the USB, check the USB cable of the camcorder, then try to see if there is a setup on the camcorder that indicates "connect to computer", some camcorders have this. If all else fail, contact your manufacturer.
if your trying to download video usb won't work! must use firewire cable hooked up to dv port on cam and connection on laptop or tower called 1394-cable is either 4 pin or 6 pin-depends on computer- cam is always 4 pin-says dv on camcorder-usb only for still pics-use windows movie maker in xp or vista to edit
Hi Taboria! You will need to download a USB driver for your camcorder in order to transfer stuff. Please let me know the Brand and Model Number of your Camcorder so that i can tell you where to find them..
I was told by Best Buy I could use the USB to transfer video which is not the case, you have to get the firewire cable. To get the computer to recognize the camera (for still images not video) you have to have the memory card in the camera then hook up the USB.
