There is a line going through the LCD screen that kind of looks like an etch a sketch. What should I do? I have never dropped the camera either.

there is a very strong possibility that a part of the film circuit of the LCD was loose and somehow totally lost connection due to shaking and other forms of physical trauma.

I would second the suggestion:
Canon Powershot LCD Replacement.
Screw around with the connection of the LCD and maybe you will get lucky.

screen shows problems like an etch a sketch

Comment by Guest, posted on Jan 09, 2009

Small blob of defective pixels appeared, then the next day it grew many times larger. Was never dropped or exposed to water.

Comment by molow, posted on Jan 07, 2009

I think my LCD screen has partially burned-out pixels. It's no longer just a black etch-o-sketch line but now is more like a blob and growing slowly. What gives? (note: when downloaded, images are flawless.)
