    When the heater gets warm it smells of burnt plastic. The smell seems to be coming from around the thermostat. This unit is only a year old.

    I am having the same issue. Smells of burnt plastic at the thermostat knob, and it's only one year old. I plan on calling the manufacturer Monday AM.

This is for the LFP6152E electric heater. I called tech support (800.642.HEAT), and explained the problem. I was told it was a diode that went bad, and they're sending me a repair kit. I guess I'll keep this number handy for the next few years.

My heating smells of burning plastic is this dangerous

Did you just start your heating system for the season? If so, this is quite normal and the smell should fade rather quickly. If the smell continues, call a professional.

Is it normal for thermostats to go out quickly on a 1989 Nissan Maxima

No it is not normal. Is your exhaust thick and smells a little like urine burning? Does the car run hot and yet no heat out of the heater? Because I am thinking that your 1989 Nissan is loosing a head gasket here.

Just installed this DV210SG Wall mounted panel heater, works great but smells like burning rubber, there is nothing burning, but sure smells bad! HELP!

There are manufacturing oils remaining on the metal. Allow it to stay on for about 1/2 hour. Open windows and door to ventilate. Smell will dissipate with use.

We have a gas wall heater product number 4690011 and we do not know how to start it;

Remember if you smell gas, turn unit manual gas valve off and open a near by window, wait until smell is gone then proceed with these directions,turn manual gas valve back on, turn thermostat down.1.) turn combination gas valve knob to the pilot position and press down knob, if unit has a striker button, push striker while holding down knob until pilot lights, keep knob held down in the pilot position for 20 seconds then let up on knob and turn to the on position, turn thermostat up, main burners should light.

Smell of electrical burning.. no more heat in house!

First of all keep this in mind.
You will need to locate the wires that got hot. If you can't or if your not sure, I suggest that you call a service company. If they ok the unit and it catches on fire after wards, their insurances will cover you unit and or home if god forbid it burns. This is to be on the safe side.
Now, this is where I would look. Your element should be on it's on circuit. There should be a disconnect within reach of the air handler. Some are fused and some are not. The wires that got hot enough for you to smell them should show signs of being hot like the plastic will be melted around the wire. You said that the heater was running. Was this the first time you have used it this year? If so, are you sure it was not the dust burning off the elements? They will smell like something burning when you first turn them on each year. Although if your sure you smelled wires getting hot, please continue looking for just that. Keep in mind that the elements have 220 volts coming to them. It comes into the unit and go to a switch or relay. From there the power goes to the elements and then to a neutral. These are the wires you will need to pay the most attention to. Good luck.

Greetings, I have the same problem. There is a one inch square diode with 5-prong connections held on the control end by a screw on the unit's back. That's where my burning smell and very hot area were located. Call Carrol Apl. 1-800-654-3545. They have the diode for $9 + $9.95 postage. Matt who works there knows the part. Problem must be widespread - China Mfr.= Garbage products and No US Jobs.
