Have a Kenwood TK-2200 that transmits just fine but does not receive. When powered up the white noise/static is constant. Any fix for this?

Many times static/white noise is a sign of a bad or low battery. You might try trading the battery with a known good unit to see if the problem goes away. Also, you may want to check your antenna, trade it with a known good antenna and see if it is the issue. Beyond this your radio would need to be looked at by a repair tech.

Best regards.

Hand held scanner to open a box?

If you were to have it open using any barcode, you could build a circuit that uses the beep of the scanner when it reads a barcode.

If you wanted it to only work with specific barcodes it would get far more complicated, you could right a program that displays a white or black box in a corner of your computer screen and just build a simple light detection circuit and tape the CDS Cell of the circuit on your screen where that box gets displayed.

I have a motorola t5720 and when I hit the mon key it makes no noise. I also do not have my manual. What do I do?

The monitor MON button may or may not emit noise. On some models of radios it will have "white noise" when pressed. On others it is silent. MON is used to be "polite" and see if anyone is talking before you transmit, assuming you have the interference code eliminator turned on. It temporarily shuts off your CODE. If your CODE is set to zero, you would never need the MON button, as you will hear all radio traffic anyway.

For simple operation of your radio, set all your radios identical to one another with the same frequency, code and Qt filter (if any). Use the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button to transmit, and release it when you are done talking to listen for a reply from a fellow radio user.

I had a uniden oceanus installed and when I click the talk button it changes the channel on my stereo. Help!

Try moving your antennas further apart. If they are already a couple feet apart, mount the Uniden in another location away from the stereo if possible. You might check with a radio shop about a filter. Your Uniden operates in the 150MHz range and the stereo receives in the 88-107MHz range. Good Luck.

Battery volts check

With the battery fully charged, you can us a volt meter. Touching the wands to two separate battery contacts. (I believe it to be the outter two. But you will be able to tell from the reaction of your meter.) If it show you a negative number, simply reverse your wands.

On the CLS1410 and its sister the VL50, there is a battery indicator built into the radio. It will show you on the screen how much charge is in the batteries. Also, with this style of radio, you are using a Li-Ion battery, which will last you about 12-14 months before you need to replace it.

There is a date code on the white portion of the battery label. It is sometimes hard to discern. But if you look you'll see the year followed by the month and date. If the radio was fresh from Motorola when you bought it. The battery date should coincide with its true initial charge age.

My Binatone Marina 300 Walkie talkies give hiss & noise. Pressing menue and up or menu alone makes no difference. How can I have a quiet radio except when called?

Hello andy300,

Does the "RX" indicator show on the LCD screen constantly?

This radio does have a monitor function which disables the squelch control, allowing the user to listen to weak signals on the channel. Enabling this function in absence of any signals will cause the user to hear any background static or noise on the channel. You enable this function by pressing Menu + Up at the same time and disable the function by pressing Menu.

I assume that you are familiar with this function from the fact that you mention these keystrokes have no affect on the radio's behavior.

It is possible that the area you are using the radios in / channel you are using them on has a very high noise level. If the noise level is higher then the radio's automatic squelch threshold, then you would hear constant static, hiss, or white noise and the receive ("RX") indicator would show a constant signal. A local noise level can be caused by atmospheric conditions or very busy nearby adjacent-channel radio signals.

Try operating the radios on a different channel and see if that helps. If it is practical, you might try operating the radios in a different local area just to see if that has any effect at all. This would help you determine if the problem was a local one specific to the area you are operating in.

If it is local area related you might consider switching to a different model of radio that includes a Continuous Coded Squelch System (CTCSS) function (called "privacy codes" or "quiet tones" by come manufacturers. This function does not appear to be included in the model you are using and can help keep your radios silent unless you receive a call from another radio using the exact same privacy code.

If the problem persists regardless of channel or area, then you might have a problem with the radio that would require factory service.

Hope this helps. Best regards!
Ken

D-104 Silver Eagle Mic Squeels

Hi, usually when they refer to putting a cap in, their talking about adding a .01mfd disc cap to the white audio lead wire up inside the bottom of the mic. Just follow the cord into the bottom of the mic, by taking the bottom off. find the white(audio) wire where it fastens to either the board or the terminal strip. Just unsolder the white wire and add the cap and resolder the other leg of the cap back where the white wire was removed. Some people even use a cap and resistor combo. Sometimes using a .001 cap from the audio line to ground then a 4700 ohm resistor will work in extreme cases.

You can experiment with different combo to see what will work for you. Hope this helps you out, let us know,,, Mechanic
