Sounds like the timer is the problem, the reversing contacts have probably failed

How to fit belt on Creda Reversair 37643 Tumble dryer

New belt is very tight, so you have to use more strength. Put it on motor and all other on "drum". Spin it easily and slowly but with strength until its done.

Be carefully, use gloves.

Which direction should the drum rotate on a gas dryer? the drum barely moves under load. I had the belt loose while cleaning the dust & lint from inside the motor, now that everything is re-connected ,...

The belt routing can be kind of complicated on some dryers.
Post your dryer brand and model and we can help you with a picture or diagram.
You can search the web for your dryer model, with "belt routing" or "idler arm diagram" to find it yourself.

My creda reversair dryer no.37642 doesn't rotate, although there is heat in the drum. What could be wrong with it?

Most likely the drum belt is broken or the tensioner is broken this is not to expensive to fix and the belt can be bought at any applince store.

Creda drier drum will not rotate when fully loaded

The belt could be worn or bad or the tension spring is to loose and not keeping enough tension on the belt. When loaded to max belt just slips and doesn't turn the drum.

Eleven year old Whirlpool electric dryer cannot turn the drum with a full load of towels. The motor turns on but then shuts off. It will turn a very light load.

Turn the drum by hand. It should rotate fairly easy in one direction. If so, then the motor is going out and need replacement. Fairly common problem.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

Check the drive belt and belt tensioner. From the way you describe it, the belt is loose and with a load in the drum, it will not rotate due to belt slipping.

Drum does not rotate

The drum rotates due to a belt that goes around the drum and is driven by a small motor. The most likely answer is that the belt broke. This a common problem on an older dryer. It is relatively easy to replace the belt.

Dryer Drum not rotating

If warm air is still coming from the unit, but the drum is not rotating, it sounds like your drive motor is fine, but your drive belt is broken. Depending on you dryer model, these can be fairly easy to check, or may take a little creativity to get the dryer apart. Knowing your dryer model number would go a long way towards assisting further.
